De Bruyne discusses Scudetto battle, return from America and Modric’s quality: “Just for second”

On Monday, AC Milan will face Napoli in a game that is being titled the creation of an ‘Anti-Inter’. Yet, it may not even have a chance to become that.

There has been a lot of talk about the Scudetto, understandably. However, it is more of a distant dream than an actual reality. Ultimately, Inter need to slip up massively and that seems pretty unlikely at this moment.

Yet, in the event that they lose this weekend, Monday’s game instantly becomes a battle to fight for the Scudetto. Both teams, it seems, are sticking with the fact that they only want a spot in the top four. If offered, though, neither would say no to silverware.

De Bruyne previews Napoli-Milan

Kevin De Bruyne has not yet experienced winning the Scudetto, but he knows what it means to win titles and he spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPress), after returning from America, about Napoli’s chances.

How are you after returning?

“I’m fine. A little jet lag to get over after returning from America. But I’m fine.”

Napoli-Milan, just for second place?

“That’s the way it is at the moment. Everything depends on Inter, of course, who have their destiny in their hands: if they win them all, they’ll be champions. We can only give our all to try and win as many games as possible.

“A few weeks ago, we were 14 points behind; now we’re seven points behind. It’s always very difficult, but in football, things change quickly. However, we shouldn’t think about that now, but focus on our goal, which is to finish in the top four and return to the Champions League next year.

“Then we’ll see what Inter do. In the meantime, let’s focus on winning Monday’s match.”

Do you know Modric?

“He’s a top player! I know him well. I’ve faced him many times, and I’ve spoken to him many times. He’s one of the best midfielders of all time for me: obviously, I can’t make comparisons between generations, but he’s certainly one of the best in the last 20 years.

“I think I’ve faced him at least 20 times between Croatia and Madrid. Now with Milan. For me, he’s a fantastic player, a fantastic person. And he has a great family. We may not be friends, but I am Kovacic’s, and they are very good friends. We’ve crossed paths often.”
