MN: What the signing of De Ketelaere says about Milan’s vision and financial situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have pulled off potentially the statement signing of the summer among Serie A clubs having signed Charles De Ketelaere for a sizeable outlay.

MilanNews writes how consistency is a fundamental part of the vision that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have in mind. We saw it with the negotiations over renewals of players asking for big salaries and we are seeing it with the persistence on signing young talent.

Milan have a combination that not many other teams in Europe have: a winning project on the pitch while also being increasingly sustainable in terms of accounts. At the moment it is hard to bridge the gap with Europe’s elite clubs given the lack of a new stadium but that is why ideas are so key.

After winning the Scudetto with one of the youngest squads in the league, the talented scouting department decided that a €35m (€32m + €3m bonuses) investment for De Ketelaere was the right one after seeing similar amounts spent on Rafael Leao and Fikayo Tomori.

It is a signal that Milan have the money without sales to keep fielding a competitive team at high levels, at least in Italy. The road has been drawn and the Rossoneri are ready to follow it.

  1. another stupid article put out by ownership I’m sure in an attempt to make it seem only they are spending money without selling players LOL. Didn’t Juve buy Vlahovic (80) and Zakaria (5) Bremer (50) and pick up the options on Chiesa (40) and Kean (30?)- all for 2022??? De Ligt sale didn’t cover half of that (80). So spare us these B$ articles how Ownership is flexing their financial might. We bought ONE fkn player thus far. Hardly enough. Lost a few others because we didn’t have the money to up the offers or salaries and had to chose paying for one over the other. Now we only have 10M left to replace Kessie and Romagnolli? Ya we can feel the financial power
