De Ketelaere says he has waited ‘a long time’ for that scoring feeling after Atalanta debut

Charles De Ketelaere has explained that he has been waiting a long time for the feeling of scoring a goal after he got off to a perfect start for Atalanta.

The AC Milan attacker is currently on loan at Atalanta from the Rossoneri and he made his debut from the bench away at Sassuolo on the opening weekend.

The Belgian was speaking to Il Corriere della Sera (via Football Italia) when he was asked about the feeling of getting his first goal for La Dea. His header made it 1-0 to Atalanta with less than 10 minutes to play in Reggio Emilia.

“I’ve been waiting for feelings like this for a long time, I wanted to score and I am happy it helped the team win the game,” he said

There is a feeling that De Ketelaere has got somewhere that he can shine now that he has joined a tactical setup that better suits his strengths.

There is no space for him in Stefano Pioli’s new 4-3-3 and that is largely why he was moved on. De Ketelaere spoke glowingly about Gian Piero Gasperini.

“I spoke to the coach about my playing style and tried to do what he wanted,” the Belgian said.

“I like Gasperini’s playing style and it’s one of the reasons why I came here. Atalanta are a great team and I want to do well. This is a great opportunity for me and I want to do well.”
