This afternoon, Koni De Winter spoke about his move to AC Milan, the struggles of it and why he feels it was the right choice.

It was not the easiest start to life for De Winter at Milan. Indeed, throughout the first half of the season, he struggled quite heavily. Additionally, the fans were not really on his side after the way his move came about.

After all, many believed that he shouldn’t have been the replacement, or at least shouldn’t have been the only replacement for a central defender who could’ve started.

His worst performance of the season came against Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana, but when he returned, he seemed to be a different player. Confident in the middle of the three and in a wider role, he took the second half of the season in his stride and perhaps should’ve played even more regularly.

Like Alexis Saelemaekers earlier today, De Winter also spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport and his words have been relayed by MilanNews.

“I can say that playing for AC Milan is… difficult. There’s a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations. I think a player has to learn to manage all of this, and that I made the right choice in joining this great club. I’ve learned a lot, I’ve gained experience, and personally, I think I’ve grown a lot.”
