De Zerbi comments on Bennacer’s debut after summer rejection: “Wanted to come”

AC Milan and Ismael Bennacer parted ways on the final day of the January mercato, and the move definitely did not go how many had hoped a departure would.

Bennacer’s time at Milan ended quite sourly. Not only did the Algerian not get a ‘proper’ chance to say goodbye to the club, but the midfielder’s time ended due to a disagreement with the head coach in the Derby della Madonnina.

However, the shoe is not just on one foot. Whilst fans would have appreciated a chance to say goodbye, the 27-year-old is the one who forced a move to leave the club according to reports, and this greatly annoyed the club.

His first performance in France went how everyone on the Marseille side of the deal would have hoped, with the midfielder performing near his best – something which makes his buy clause look like immense value.

Today, Roberto De Zerbi commented on his joy to have Bennacer at the club, especially after his debut, and Milan Press relayed his sentiments.

“He [Bennacer] is a great player. I am sorry for Rongier because he was not in a condition to play, he remains a very good player. But Isma played very well and is a great player for us. He brings personality and quality.

“He wanted to come to Marseille, he loves this club. It’s an honour for us to have him play with us.”

  1. Why is it that most players leave milan club disrespectfully ,something is wrong with the club ..the like of Donna ,calhanoglu, kessie ,krunic ,calabria ,isma ,…players leave milan disrespectfully unlike in those days wen players cry even wen retiring from milan ,inter players wud hardly want to leave their club in the manner which ac milan players do

    1. Because Milan is a young team and young people today think they are entitled because they have followers on social media.

      Ungrateful spoiled kids thats why.

Back in the days they became men arpund 20 now they are kids till their 30s

      1. This comment makes no sense. Social media???? Young kids? He’s 27 lol.

It’s a business bro. He had a row with the manager he wasn’t going to start/play – so he wanted to leave. Same as when we get rid of a player that is under contract. It’s ok for the club to do it but not the player? What’s the difference? We could have denied his request and told him to wait, but we didn’t. And remember we wanted to sell him last summer lol. Double standard buddy

        1. They act like kids.
          Not fighting for anything.

Leaving Milan for Marseille is a huge leap down. Most people wanna go up.

And yeah they are still kids at 27.. atleast mentally.

          1. I disagree with you please… I’d rather be in a small club where my impact will be seen than be in a big club where I have to struggle for playing time.

I am particularly happy for CDK for leaving Milan for Atalanta, thereby making Atalanta a big team with his impact.

I hope you understand my point?

    2. Cause we became a generic cheap franchise on demand for shallow audience who get entertained easily but bored fast. A grand recipe for buying low, hyping up and selling assets. This is how players are now seen. Players as humans, symbols and idols don’t exist here anymore, they are now assets with potential for a return and it’s all about making money of their backs. Then we have cheap generic merchandise like OffWhite keyrings for 150€ and issuing 10 different shirts a season, collabing with this overpriced brands that run sweatshops in Asia but sell their stuff as premium and limited. You don’t matter. Your money does.

It’s called the American dream my friend.

    3. What a load of crap, @Ruskin, Milan had a ton of players in recent memory who left and spoke highly of the club. Suso, Tonali, Deulofeu,Castillejo, ibra, Giroud and Kjaer.

The guys who took advantage of the club and treated them disrespectfully are quite a few as well. But that is more to do with money and a desire to play more football. I have no time or respect for those who leave the club during the past 4-6 years and not get a transfer fee. I say this because they all knew how tight Milan were financially and they just left. Kessie, Hakan, Donnarumma and Alessio Romagnoli are the worst because of this.

I have more respect for Suso because he wasn’t always starting when it came to the end but he treated the club with respect and no one at Milan disliked him. He helped the club get the most they can from his transfer and Milan moved forward. He speaks well of Milan and I like him even more because of the memories.

Those who left the club because of money or left the club by putting the club in a disadvantage in negotiations. Those guys I hope no one respects other than giving them the respect we should give to every human being.

      1. Milan bought Fofana and now gimenez by same manner as you said.
In my opinion we cannot compare with clubs other than Madrid, but these negotiations worse than small clubs.

No one speaks badly about club AC Milan, even if they have disagreements with management.
Problem will be with management at that time not the club.

You can say something bad about the player who left for free is only donnarumma, not because what club paid for his game but the club made him captain, his family taken care and his brother was paid for nothing etc.,

For kessie, hakan we didn’t pay what they because of our financial situations and we have no money to plan their sale in advance with backup purchase etc.,We were progressing in serie A, champions league with them. Atleast for what they have done appreciate it until last day.
I don’t like too appreciate chalhanoglu for what he has spoken after joining inter. He is bad as$.

Romanogli is our captain in banter era, he was with the club for long time and during difficult times. We didn’t like to give him his salary, there was no reason to blame him. Atleast he was good backup in scudetto season and he was the captain for last scudetto season.

You should more question how this management is working and making player’s loose all the motivation by releasing statements for good price anyone can be sold.
I haven’t seen a player someone like tonali yet after 2seasons. Not sure we can buy for 10m/20m moneyball
