Sky Germany: ‘Deal collapsed’ – why Okafor will no longer join RB Leipzig

Noah Okafor flew to Germany to complete a move to RB Leipzig yesterday, but a report has suggested he will soon be on a plane back to Milan.

Okafor was spotted at Milan Linate yesterday getting on a flight to the east of Germany, where he would undergo a medical and (it was hoped) sign a contract with the Bundesliga side.

This morning some figures from the deal agreed emerged: it was to be a €2m loan with a €26m option to buy, at least as per La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Rossoneri directors had negotiated high figures, therefore.

However, there is now a spanner in the works. Philipp Hinze of Sky Germany reports that Leipzig have pulled the plug on the deal because the results of the medical showed that Okafor is not able to help immediately.

The Swiss player is not ready for action physically, as Leipzig were hoping for. As a result, the Saxony-based club have cancelled the transfer and the deal has collapsed.

It is not the news that anyone wanted, especially given that Okafor made some statements to the journalists who were present and basically bid farewell to the Milan fans.

“In life you never know, maybe we’ll see each other again. For me it was the best choice. Thanks to the Milan fans, I leave a place that will forever be in my heart,” he said.

In his 18 months in Italy, the Swiss played 52 games with the Diavolo, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

  1. “In life you never know, maybe we’ll see each other again. For me it was the best choice. Thanks to the Milan fans, I leave a place that will forever be in my heart”, for real Okafor, we meet again.

  2. I guess that helps the management with the Rashford or Walker thingie then… 😛

It should have been Chukwueze anyway to be the winger to be sold.

    1. Yeah I’d sell Chucky over Okafor any day.
Rashford is not the profile we need. He is not a centre forward and has never been good in that position.
Aside from the fact he seems like a troublesome character who is on huge money.
Leao is our LW end of.

Perhaps the management can now focus on finding an actual striker!

      1. Id rather take Walker now, stabilize the defense, and look for a top tier 9 in the summer. Yes, I’d love a ziyech loan w/option or any other decent rw, but I think we need a rb desperately right now.

        Regardless, I’d get rid of:

        Okafor
        Chukweze
        Morata
        Calabria

To get a theo deputy, and a decent rw + striker.

        1. I’d keep Okafor as LW backup
          Sell Chucky
Morata can stay as backup striker, get rid of Tammy
Keep Calabria, sell Emerson. Either sign another RB or play Jimenez more

          1. Okafor backup lw? To do what? He is useless as a winger. Th3 only few good minutes he had was as a striker. And it is maybe 30 minutes in total…hard to find a more useless player.

    1. Was just about to post the same comment.

What did you expect was going to happen when send an injured player for a medical for a 6 month loan?
Crazy figures for a currently injured player with a history of soft tissue injuries.

    2. What management?
      Ac Milan’s or RB Leipzig’s?

Both club management must be fools, and don’t know anything about the football business.
You can apply to take over the job.

    3. Clubs buys injured players and nurses him till he gets fit enough to play. It’s not new if they had made it known to th3 Germany this won’t have happened

      1. Okafor’s injury wasn’t a secret, the whole world knew he was injured, both sets of club management knew.

But here’s the problem, we were told the injury was a muscle strain which he was expected to get back to action by the end of January, now it is obvious that the medical team in Leipzig found a more aggravated injury, which should speak of our MilanLab here. For so many years, the quality of our personnel have been a thing of concern.

  3. hmm. he failed a medical. Milan wanted to sell an unfit player for such huge sums? I suspected something was amiss, how were leipzig willing to i insert such ridiculous fees for an untested player? twas too good to be true.
well, rashford stays put then. we go for Walker.

  4. I always like okafor.
He knows that he’s no starter and still professional about it.
He might not have been deliver every time he got a chance but he also came in clutch so many times for milan.
I hope this means no more rashford.
    Never like that kid.
Rashford deal is more of an opportunistic deal, just like morata.
Milan should sign players they need not signing players just because they happen to be in the market.

      1. Ferrari, you think clubs like man utd would handover their home made Ferrari? There is a lot more to this sport than raw talent. Mentally it’s opposite, where Rashford is the fiat.

25 – 28 mil? He’s not even our 1st team player. He’s still injured. His MV is around 15 mil. How on earth Leipzig want to pay that kind of amount. Option to buy will be just, well, option.

    LOL. It’s even worse now.

  6. Milan tried to offload an injured player and the potential recipient has refused lol. This management is so confused to be honest. So confused.

  7. I would’ve loved to see these people’s comments on guys like Thomas Helveg or Christian Brocchi and the rest who actually won trophies with us if they speak about our bench like this. These “fans” have no respect. Would’ve probably called R9, Baggio and Vieri cripples as well besides being the best players in their position for our respective countries ever.
