The Derby della Madonnina win has been heavily celebrated by the AC Milan fans, rightfully so, but one can’t help but wonder why the club decided to stop what could have been a wonderful tifo before the game.
For those of you who have missed the story, Curva Sud handed in their plans for a tifo to the club several weeks ago. It’s effectively a request that they have to submit, outlining exactly what the tifo will be, how it will look and most importantly, what it will say (if there are any words).

Despite handing this request in several weeks before the derby, Curva Sud didn’t receive a response from Milan until the middle of last week. Obviously, given that it takes a long time to create a tifo, they simply had to abandon the plans instead.
The tifo/choreography that you saw at San Siro on Sunday evening, meanwhile, was actually orghanised the club. The big question, however, is why they decided to stop Curva Sud’s tifo in the first place. In such a big game, it seems like a remarkable own-goal.
Many questions unanswered
Relations aren’t exactly great between the parties to begin with, after what was a turbulent 2024-25 season, so approving the tifo would have been extending another olive branch (after fighting for an away ticket prices cap). Especially since Gerry Cardinale himself was present at the stadium.
More so than politics, though, it’s hard to understand why Milan wouldn’t want the derby to have the best atmosphere possible. We all know that the Curva Sud would have done something fantastic, which definitely would have improved the atmosphere for those in the stadium and those watching from afar.
I mean, it’s one thing if the tifo had included some words that the club didn’t like, but since the request was actually approved in the end, it feels like a deliberate kick in the stomach. It just makes no sense and feels like a missed opportunity on so many levels.
I’m sure last year’s Curva’s antics against ownership don’t have ANYTHING to do with the current situation…
Misplaced priorities and bad communication channels. Bad blood slows things down. I’m curious if tifo’s need to be “unofficially” signed off by the league. Milan seems to be find after every match these days and a really good anti-inter tifo might upset all the inter fans at the league office. Who knows if this is true (probably not) but since everyone at SM likes to just makes up a narrative…
Fans need to stop thinking they are somehow above all other fans. The whole ‘curva sud’ thing is ridiculous.
Probably never seen them life. You will see that they are a very big part of this great club. Owners will come and go…
Yeah, because it’s great when they’re not there and the stadium is as quite as morgue. As long as they’re not doing illegal things I don’t see what the problem with the curva is.
if i understand you correctly, Isak, then you dont know what the curva sud plans were. then, how can you say, they planned something fantastic? what if the planned tifo did include some words that the club didnt like? wouldnt it be a smart move from the club to just wait with the approval until it was too late to create it, instead of rejecting it right away (which would surely give a lot more room for another anti management campaign). or what if the curva sud tifo wasnt as good as the one from the club (i actually liked the one we saw)? your article is made of would and could and ifs. if you are a true supporter, i wonder why you are damaging your club like this?
