MN: Why the derby against Inter is a season-defining game for Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

This afternoon Milan will resume work at Milanello in view of the match against Inter this coming Saturday, and the magnitude of the game cannot be understated.

As MilanNews writes, the match against Inter is a real watershed for Milan because of what it means in the scheme of the season and the psychological boost or damage that it could provide. The Rossoneri are 4 points behind the Nerazzurri, who also have a game in hand against Bologna, and if they were to emerge victorious then the Scudetto race may well be over for Milan.

Not only that, but the top four race would reopen if Napoli, Atalanta and Juventus were to get points against Venezia, Cagliari and Verona respectively. A draw would leave Milan with little hope of winning the title but would at least be a useful result.

However, a win would reignite the push to win the league by reducing the gap back to one point, and mentally it would be a huge hurdle to overcome after the bitter defeat  against Spezia and the lacklustre 0-0 against Juventus.

The Rossoneri’s desire for revenge is there too after the 3-0 defeat against Inter last season that essentially knocked Milan’s title race off course for good.

  1. ya think ? season over if we do not win, a win however could be the break we need as Inter has match with Napoli in two weeks, and hopefully wear themselves out with Champion’s League play. Our exit in CL could be a blessing in disguise. Viva Milano
