Official: Deschamps calls Giroud up for France to replace injured Benzema

Some good news has arrived for Olivier Giroud as he has been summoned by Didier Deschamps for France’s upcoming friendlies.

Deschamps announced the call-up of the Milan striker – who has 11 goals this season and has been decisive in big games like the ones against Inter and Napoli – in place of the injured Karim Benzema.

Due to a problem in his calf, the Real Madrid striker will not be able to take part in tomorrow’s El Clasico against Barcelona and will only be available again after the international break.

Giroud has amassed 110 appearances and has scored 46 goals for Les Bleus and obviously won the World Cup with them in 2018, but he was not called up by his country for last summer’s European Championship.

The hope is that Giroud uses the opportunity as a confidence boost and comes back firing for the Rossoneri again, of course hopefully without any kind of injury.
