In the 2016/17 season, Gerard Deulofeu joined AC Milan on a six-month spell but wasn’t redeemed at the end of it, despite doing well. Since then, the Spaniard has always looked back at the adventure with great positivity.
The winger made 18 appearances for the club and registered four goals, as well as three assists. He added some much-needed flair to the attack and was much appreciated by the fans, a majority of which urged Milan to keep him.
As said, though, he ended up returning to Everton and was then signed by Barcelona on a permanent deal. Currently, he’s at Udinese and he has impressed this season, with four goals and two assists in 15 appearances.
Speaking to The Italian Football Podcast, as cited by MilanNews, Deulofeu shared his thoughts on his time at Milan. He also stated that he wants the Rossoneri to win the Scudetto this season, which is nice to hear.
On Milan…
“I really appreciate the time I spent in Milan because I did very well there and I really enjoyed life there on and off the pitch. This weekend I will play against them and it’s always good to play against them. But my mentality is to win against them and score as many goals as I can. I respect Milan but my goal is my team.”
On the match between Udinese and Milan…
“We have the keys to claim the three points and we will play with the mentality of a lion. We can’t wait to play this match and win for our fans.”
On Theo Hernandez…
“I really like Theo. He has incredible potential. I respect him, as I respect all the Milan players. But we have our keys to play this match and win these three points and we will have the mentality of lions in this match. We are really looking forward to it. I think Theo would win a race between the two of us, for sure. He’s really fast. We’ll see on the pitch, though!”
On Donnarumma…
“Looking at him in training when he was 16 and in matches when I was at Milan, I immediately understood that he was a monster. I have a lot of respect for him and it was a pleasure to play with him at Milan.”
On Ibrahimovic…
“Zlatan is the great example for players on how living a healthy life can make you achieve your goals. To play at this age, I can only have respect for him. He was at Barcelona when I was there as a young player of Barca, at 14 or 15 years. He was and is an extraordinary player and we will try to beat him this Saturday.”
On Milan and the Scudetto…
“My favourite team among the contenders for the Scudetto is certainly Milan, because I played there. So I hope that Milan – after we beat them this Saturday, of course! – win the Scudetto this season.”
