Di Lorenzo admits Napoli ‘would have gladly avoided’ Milan in UCL quarters

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan and Napoli will square off in the Champions League quarter-finals and while both teams can consider it a good draw, both seemingly wanted a team from abroad. Napoli defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo has reiterated this.

One day prior to the draw, Milan captain Davide Calabria was asked about the draw and he stated that the Rossoneri wanted a team from abroad. Not that it’s necessarily easier, but because they face Inter and Napoli in the league anyway.

Speaking to La Repubblica, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo shared his thoughts on the draw. Just like Calabria, he stated that the Partenopei would have preferred to draw a team from abroad.

“Now we have three tough games against Milan in 17 days, including the one on April 2 in the league. I’m not making any predictions, we’re just sorry we drew an Italian team, we would have gladly avoided the Italian derby,” he stated.

The first leg will take place on April 12th, with Milan starting at home, and the return will be on April 18th. Benfica or Inter will be up next for the winner, meaning all three Italian teams are dreaming of the final.

    1. That “joke team” smacked us around just few months ago with ease. Or we have forgotten that already?
Milan was actually in better shape at the time than they are now and Chelsea was in worst shape than they are now.
Napoli is the best draw Milan could have asked for from the options available.

      1. Agreed. Chelsea have reinforced again.
They completely dominated Milan in the group.
We are lucky not to face epl team, their pace and physicality is too much for us. (Tottenham don’t count, they are falling apart).
The draw is a Lucky one, with city, Bayern, real and Chelsea on the other side.
        We are blessed!

      2. Milan was in better shape, really? Have you not paid attention? Milan had 9 players out injured then, none now. It was so bad Dest played or have you blanked that awful moment out?

        1. Outside of Theo missing 1 of the games and Maignan the players that were injured back then are not playing much or not playing at all at this point.
But even though with those injuries Milan played better football than they do now with everyone healthy.
Chelsea easiest win were both games vs Milan. And that was a bad Chelsea team
          Keep looking for excuses though.

      3. Yes and Tottenham slapped around that team too and Milan just beat Tottenham, but i guess for you worshipping a 600m fail team is good because you think they are good because they can spend money

  1. Wanted us to get Benfica atleast, Napoli is also a better draw but let’s hope they lose their form because they get ease past us to go through

    1. Benfica who has lost once all year? There are no easy draws at this stage, you have to beat good sides to advance. Well except Inter, they will always suck.
