Di Marzio: Benfica interested in acquiring on-loan Milan midfielder this summer

By Oliver Fisher -

Benfica have a strong interest in signing midfielder Alen Halilovic from AC Milan in the summer window, according to a report.

Formerly of Barcelona, the Croatia international arrived at the Rossoneri on a free transfer in summer 2018 but made just three appearances in his first season – all coming in the Europa League.

The 23-year-old was then sent to Standard Liege on an 18-month loan in January, but that loan spell was cut short due to his unhappiness.

It was then confirmed that Halilovic would be joining Eredivisie side Heerenveen on loan, and it appears his exploits in the Netherlands have not gone unnoticed.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews), Halilovic is now attracting interest from Benfica. The Portuguese club are very interested in the Croatian, whose contract with Milan will expire on 30 June 2021.

This is of course interesting too because Milan have been repeatedly linked with a move for Florentino Luis, so there could be synergy between the two sides in the market.
