Di Marzio: Blitz in London as Milan meet Aston Villa and Chelsea over duo

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are making some concrete moves on the market and according to a report, the technical director Geoffrey Moncada met a few clubs in London recently. Two players were on the agenda, namely Armando Broja and Matty Cash.

Moncada and the sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio have shifted gears on the mercato front, eager to reinforce certain positions before the pre-season starts. Joshua Zirkzee is the priority and the London trip was mainly for him, in talks with his agent over the commission.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Moncada also met with a few Premier League clubs that need to offload some players before June 30. A meeting was held with Aston Villa to discuss the future of Matty Cash, who was snubbed for the Euros due to recent injuries.

Milan’s soon-to-be new manager Paulo Fonseca is a big fan of the full-back, per the report, and perhaps there is scope for a deal. In addition to him, Moncada also spoke to Chelsea about Armando Broja, who could be the perfect deputy striker for next season.

If the conditions are right, then the Rossoneri will likely sign the Albanian international as they have been following him for quite some time. In short, Milan are making moves on the mercato and we could soon see some official announcements.

    1. Colombo is solid at best. Pre Injury Broja had everything to become top class. There is no comparison in my eyes.

Two big ‘ifs’ but if we can get him for peanuts and if we can get him back to where he was then he’s a better deputy than Jovic.

The only other consideration as I said yesterday is we have to start thinking about minutes for Camarda.

      1. Broja is back from cruciate ligament and can’t nail down a spot in Fulham. Fulham! Buying him will be a big gamble.

If we only need back up it’s better to use Colombo… He is Italian. Or Jovic. Both didn’t cost money.

I can’t imagine Chelsea will let Broja go for less than 20m. And that will reduce the budget for our first striker.

As for Camarda, if we get u23 team this season he will play there, maybe until he is 18 y.o where his body will be stronger and ready to face Serie A defender.

        1. I think the Milan strategy is a lot deeper and smarter than people think.

The investment in the U23’s is extremely clever, you can let players like Carmarda, Simic and Zerroli play week in week out at a good level get form and then rotate them into the first team.

This would be ideal for Luka Romero and Daniel Maldini, this is something that has been thought out soundly by the management.

You can control the playing time your players have, just hope Bonera is up to the job, that is a big question mark!

        2. I think the u23 team is extremely smart thinking from the management, they can use that team to get players ready for the first team without and reducing the risk of failure by letting players develop and get form in the u23’s and then rotate them with the first team, ideal for players like Maldini and Romero (of course they would have to agree), but the u23’s will be a good enough level to expedite their development the leap from u23 to first team will be a lot less then primavera to first team.

I think we should all have 1 eye on that side of things it as it could overhaul our whole transfer strategy and no doubts others teams will follow suit it could be the way the transfer system is headed…

  1. This seems like a bunch of backup options rather than a “Blitz”

Cash for 30mn when potentially Di Lorenzo is available? And Broja unless cheap/loan as backup striker I don’t see us seriously going for him as our starting no.9

  2. So that’s why Jovic’s contract still hasn’t extended? Because we’re looking for more Chelsea reject as back up striker?

This guy is back from cruciate ligament tear and cant nail down a place at struggling Fulham.

Considering he is still 22 he can be okay as deputy but if that’s the case, why not just use Colombo? Why not just extend Jovic? Especially if hiring him will cost some money and reduce the budget to buy main striker.

If he is our sole striker purchase this summer, it’s a big NO.

    1. Good questions. Save the money from Broja to other positions as we’d already have two free (and better) options.

  3. I’d take Broja over Colombo and Jovic as back-up for the eventual first choice striker, IF he comes on loan. But what the hell is Cash supposed to do for Milan? He ain’t even free or something.

  4. Cash would be nice, he has Speed an dribbling Skills. Can Drive The Ball forward. Something that Calabria dont have. But he wont be cheap, and why would he leave Aston, they also play CL next season…

Broja is a gamble and dont make Sense. I Hope we keep Jovic as second Striker.

    1. They have to sell their players by June 30 according to Premier League rules, and this applies to Chelsea as well.
