Di Marzio: Chelsea made a big late offer for Milan star and could return to the table

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan received a substantial offer from Chelsea for Rafael Leao right at the end of the transfer window but he was never close to leaving, it is claimed.

Leao began to become more intensely linked with a potential move to Chelsea as the summer mercato drew towards its conclusion, but in the end there was never anything to suggest his exit was imminent and he remained with Milan, who must now look into renewing his contract which expires in June 2024.

Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky spoke on the Football Daily broadcast (via MilanNews) and gave some interesting background on just how much Chelsea wanted Leao, stating that the Premier League club decided to offer €70-80m for the winger right at the end of the window.

However, Milan’s response was clear: there was no time to find a replacement and to complete such a big negotiation. Now Milan must renew Leao’s contract, otherwise Chelsea will return to the negotiating table for Leao in the coming months.

  1. Di Marzio please could you stop this ur garbage information on January transfer and let us concentrate on our important games?
You have never reported any good news about Milan recently but always fast to report news on leao transfer to chelsea
Don’t you have any other news to report?
    Why always Leao
January is still far yet you make too much noise about it
You are using this false and imaginative system to distract we the fans who needs to pay attention to things happening immediately instead of January
Please wait for January to come first
    Forza Milan

  2. They couldnt even get that semipro player gordon for 70 but they tried to get MVP and best LW on the world for 70 🤣🤣🤣 u can have him if u add 200 + pulisic as an offer ,how dare u to offer 70 for golden boy if u throw 120 on flopkaku last year 🤣🤣

  3. Leao would be better off not going to Chelsea. Of course I want him to stay with us; but if he really wants to leave to go make a lot more money and some team is out there willing to pay it, it would be better for him if it’s another club… I’m just looking at how they threw over 70 million at Pulisic and he barely plays; threw tons of money at Ziyech; he barely plays; Timo Werner and he was a disaster there; Lukaku had an MVP type season with Inter leading them to Scudetto year before last and he goes to Chelsea and is terrible; the list goes on… it seems that that club is starting to try to follow the path Man U has been on for years now — overpaying without purpose or good planning and in the end making players unhappy and they perform poorly.

  4. Milan seriously have to consider all options on the table. Selling Leao in Jan is indeed the way to go if he doesn’t renew. His heart is not into renewing…. look at Tonali andTheo, they love playing in Milan. Wages is not a huge problem to them. Just commit to a number and close the deal. Leao is dragging and upping his request as time goes by. He is like Kessie!
