Di Marzio claims Milan will invest but not ‘heavily’: “There are alternatives”

We are less than 30 days away from the opening of the January mercato, and AC Milan are under pressure to invest. However, they may not do so to the level the fans expect.

Losing to Atalanta has effectively delivered a final blow to an already dying hope – the Scudetto is all but out of Milan’s reach if it wasn’t already. It, unfortunately, goes further than this, though. Perhaps, chances of a top-four finish are also lying nearly dead.

Paulo Fonseca will be keen to ensure that heads do not drop around the club, but this is inevitable, with an already difficult mountain to climb becoming more steep.

For this reason, fans are already looking to January and the mercato, where gaps can be filled. However, Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that whilst the club may invest, it may not be to the level expected, and his words to Sky have been transcribed by Milan News.

“[Investing] Heavily? I don’t think so. At least one piece will fix it, they will try to get a midfielder even if now Bennacer will return and we need to understand the physical condition of the player. But anyway I think in that role there.

“If you go and look at the other situations in other departments there are alternatives in all the roles.”

  1. Think it’s clear as day if we wanna salvage this season we need a DM ( a somewhat good one, not, I’ll be ready in 3 years talent,.) and a lb (a good one that can challenge theo, not a, I’ll be ready in 3 years talent)

  2. The truth is the squad does not need another major overhauling, we just need to inventive, not winning the scqudetto this year should not be the demise of the project, we need to plan ahead, planning ahead requires the management and Coach knowing precisely what to do, we have a good foundation, all we have to do is build on it, to begin with, we need more Italian players, for squad harmony and a sense of belonging, then to be able to abide by all the rules of Lega and Uefa in terms of the squad, then the Coach and management needs to understand that the squad needs to be built accurately, the Futuro and Youth projects need to be further supported and expanded, it bearing fruit, even right now we have players in the Futuro team that can be promoted directly into the first team as early as January.
We could get one midfielder, then promote Zeroli and Vos, in the defence Coubis and Berthasagi could also be promoted, in my honest view both Calabria and and Florenzi should be released this January, and the space they leave could be taken by the two Futuro defenders I mentioned.
The club needs to understand the reason the attack is not functioning is a lack of creativity, it was a mistake to loan out both Adli and Salemeakers, they are technically gifted players who are also creative, having them together with Rejinders and Pulisic in the squad would have really helped the creativity problem.
Secondly the Coach needs to give Okafor and Jovic more chances, and revive them, they are both good strong, technical and clinical players, they just need good playing time and for the coach to believe in them, the Coach is making the same mistakes Pioli is making, and over reliance on one striker, in Bergamo Abraham should have been brought on earlier, and Leao has more chemistry with Abraham than Morata, the Coach also needs to demand and give Abraham a chance, their are few strikers in the market with his build, pace, experience and technical quality, any striker we try to get now will cost upwards of 40/50 million, we have four capable strikers who can be relied upon if the Coach has faith in them, and gives each of them a fair chance, one player I feel we need to move on it’s Chukweze, he is a one trick pony, loses the ball easily, also wastes time on the ball, we need direct players on the wings , just the way Leao is, Okafor can also serve that purpose, he is younger, stronger, technically and tactically better, and more stronger than Chukweze, we could even use Chukweze to get Dominic Lewin of Everton who seems likely to leave in January, he is strong, direct and technically good, he will be the fourth English man we have in the squad, which is good for marketing and exposure for the club, something Chukweze cannot contribute too, and he will be at home as we already have 3 English players to help him settle, even Chaka Toure could be promoted directly into the first team, as he has grown, and is developing nicely.
The main thing is for the club to plan for the future wisely, not spend money recklessly, we need correct and precise buys, and both the Futuro and Youth projects need to be encouraged and supported, the Futuro players I mentioned that should be promoted, could still be used in Futuro matches if the schedules permit, that way they get more playing time, and have the benefit of playing and practicing with the first team.

    1. Good points . I agree, but I think first reinforcement is RB , because Italy is not good for him, he is slow and weak. How many goals come from his side , how many mistakes he does?? If we don’t want to play Calabria and Florenzi anymore, then we need to buy prime RB and Royal will be our bench player…. First I was okay we sell Kalulu , he is injury prone , for 20m is good price, but buying Royal for 15m is waste of money….
on the other side Theo is good , I think we don’t need to buy another player, just need to play more Bartesaghi , we have good future with him..
In our attack Leao, Morata and Pulisic are great attack, but Abraham is not good striker ( thx god he is just on loan) and Chukwueze is weak .. if we manage to sell him in January, Im okey with it.. we need to buy better winger and I think we should buy Berardi from Sasuolo, he has 30 years, his price is somewhere around 10m. He knows Seria A and can help with attack.. For that price he can be massive addition. Give him 4 years contract and he can be better bench player then Chuky… and finaly also midfielder is needed … RLC can be also sold and if we buy 2 midfield (DM, AM) we can definitly fight for CL…
1 RB, 1RW , 2 Midfield and we are ok

  3. Investment in January????
    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

    Keep DREAMING

Have we not seen what our January windows look like!? Trash and practically zero spend.

Management will say Benny is our “new” signing and don’t forget they told us Vos could play in the first team – ya right 🤡

Doesn’t matter who we get – not going anywhere with Fonseca leading us that much is clear

And what about the “complete” team Ibra claimed we had after the summer market??? But yet we Still need a DM – but didn’t they say that’s why we signed Musah? Still need a striker but didn’t they say that’s why we signed Tammy and Morata (and of course we have Camrada!). Still need a RB but isn’t that why we signed Emerson and dumped Kalulu??? Still need a backup LB but isn’t that why we signed Terracciano last January?????

DM? Wasn’t Kone and Rabiot available? But we PASSED over $$$ – AGAIN

Now Theo’s agent said Milan has gone cold on renewal talks…Amazing!

Let’s face it until we get a real Sporting Director in place and an ownership group that is willing to spend to win TITLES – we are going nowhere.
All that work M&M did is gone and we are starting over. Sad

    1. It’s very shocking and that everything a Maldini someone who knows football said about Milan was completely 💯 percent right after all.

      Insert gasp noises….

I can’t wait to read what the Redbird banner men that are skulking around sempre Milan would bring as excuses again. Tis gonna be interesting to read the new bs excuses they cook up.
