Di Marzio: Four players to be left out of USA tour while four others can still leave

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are getting ready to travel to the United States for a preseason tour which includes friendlies against Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona.

Gianluca Di Marzio writes that from the start of training to today, Stefano Pioli has had the opportunity to reflect on the squad he has and evaluate the choices to make in view of the tour, with departure set for July 21.

Not all players will be called up for the trip and some surprise exclusions could come. For example, Ante Rebic, Divock Origi, Fodé Ballo-Touré and Marko Lazetic are not expected to board the plane on Friday.

On the morning of Thursday 20 July, the Rossoneri coach will make his last reflections before confirming the choices but at present the quartet are destined to be left in Italy.

Matteo Gabbia, Junior Messias, Yacine Adli and Alexis Saelemaekers should go with the team but the choice does not change the situation of the players, who are not in the plans (especially Gabbia and Messias).

  1. You know, CDK mentality still isn’t there. Look at florenzi, he came off a poor year which included injuries and he came to train earlier before any other player. CDK had a brutal year and just as brutal for u21 and he still takes his vacation. A man wanting to get better would have joined the squad as quickly as possible to get going again. I pick on this man too much because I see potential in him, but his mentality, motivation stunts his growth more than anything. He’s skilled but his head isn’t there, maybe he’s timid, maybe pioli needs to light a fire under his ass or maybe he’s just not the right man but he continues to irritate me. Show something!

    1. I see the frustration. I fully wanted CDK to join Milan and was happy when he did, but now I see a player that isn’t taking the initiative. I’m now split on whether he should stay or not.

    2. How about he deserved a break to reflect on things and get his mind ready. There are many ways to solve a problem…and to say that he is not motivated because he took a break….that can’t necessarily be the case.

      1. There have been on break since which other break does he need again now he should be on the plane and get his ass fired up

      2. Florenzi didnt play this summer, he did. Of course he needed to rest a bit to prevent injuries. Nothing suggests he didn’t train at home. All these athletes have personal dietitians, personal trainers etc. They are pros, he obviously is doing work at home as well. If he chose to stay with us and refuse offers from elsewhere he is motivated to do well. Taking a bit of rest is a good sing that he is resetting away from the spotlight and getting ready for a huge, career defining season with us.

  2. @ Milanellofm continue picking on that boy and claim you don’t criticize him.
I wondered what you were doing at 21?
This is a player who has played in every world cups of all levels and played in the champions league yet he’s not good. Leave the small lad alone leave him alone.
We need to say good things about him rather than wasting all energy talking negative about him.
He’s a wonderful player who caused us more and like Leo he will improve. A big city was not built in a day.
You talked about his floppy display at the u21 world championship honestly you didn’t watch him play or you followed hear say
He was the best Belgian player in that team and if his strikers were able to convert the passes he gave them Belgium would have qualified
    So leave him alone

  3. I do want CDK to stay and do well, but then again… if we sell him, I’ll understand. I just hope he’s given another opportunity and we sign others to complement him. Maybe he’ll do better in 4-3-3.

But he really needs to get back into it and show he does love Milan.
