Di Marzio: Genoa seal €3m Messias deal and turn to another Milan forward

By Oliver Fisher -

Junior Messias is expected to sign for Genoa over the weekend as an agreement has been reached to facilitate his AC Milan exit, a report claims.

According to the latest from Gianluca Di Marzio, Messias will leave the Rossoneri after two seasons with 68 appearances, 12 goals (10 in Serie A and 2 in the Champions League) and five assists in order to start a new adventure.

The former Crotone star arrives at Genoa on loan with an obligation to buy for next summer. Milan will receive €1.5m as the loan fee plus €1.5m for the obligation, including bonuses.

The 32-year-old is expected to undergo his medical shortly and sign his contract with the Rossoblu, thus ending his two-year time with Milan.

Meanwhile, the report also states that Lorenzo Colombo has been chosen by Genoa as their target for the striker role after the arrival of Mateo Retegui.

The Ligurian club would like him on a loan deal and they expect to be able to overcome the competition from Cagliari. There could be news in the next 2/3 days.

  1. Great. I actually used to watch Genoa pretty often before they were relegated. Then wasn’t able to see them so much. Messias and Colombo would find more playing time there.

And again, good luck to Messias. They could make a movie about his life story.

  2. At least we don’t have to listen to the story of the “refrigerator guy” every time he’s on the pitch. He did better in Milan that I thought he would. Scored a few important goals but ultimately wasn’t good enough. Good price/quality ratio though.

  3. Colombo is going to Genoa to backup Retegui instead of staying at Milan as backup to Giroud? Am I read this correctly? Are we planning on making another signing then? If so, it only makes sense from Milan’s point of view as long as the signing is an improvement on what Colombo could offer this season.

    1. Unless… this is probably very implausible, but knowing how close Milan and Genoa were for so many years… Colombo goes to Genoa and Retegui comes to Milan.

You heard it here first. Now it is somewhat implausible as Genoa just signed him but you never know…

      1. @ Giancarlo

It’s def possible as you’re right the two clubs have had good relations in recent years. But I’d likely say next summer, if Retegui is a success after a season in Serie A we get something like first refusal. Perhaps this clause could be inserted as part of the negotiations of the Colombo loan deal.

Still brings us back to the dilemma this season. With Colombo on loan, unless Origi stays (I sincerely hope not!!) Then is Giroud+ Okafor enough?

  4. Colombo will get minutes in Milan as Giroud can’t play every game and Origi is, well, he’s Origi. It makes no sense for Colombo to leave.
