Di Marzio: Why Liverpool game has a big influence on Milan’s January transfer plans

By Oliver Fisher -

A lot of AC Milan’s strategy for the January transfer window could depend on next week’s game against Liverpool in the Champions League, it is claimed.

Il Corriere della Sera are among the sources that are reporting Simon Kjaer will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today (Friday) to repair damage to his cruciate ligament and his collateral ligament. This means that the Dane is looking at six months out and his season could well be over.

Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio spoke about Milan’s strategy for the January transfer window during an interview with Calciomercato.it, relating specifically to the pursuit of a new centre-back.

“Will Milan’s strategies change? I think so. Let’s wait to understand the real extent of the injury, how long he will have to stay out. It is clear that Milan will understand if they have to intervene and what kind of intervention they will have to do,” he said (via MilanLive).

“It also depends on the Champions League: if they were to go through or drop down into the Europa League there will be an urgent need to take on a player in that position. With only the league, the squad could remain like that. But I think the club will take the right time to figure out what to do.”

A number of different solutions have already been suggested by the media such as the early return of Mattia Caldara, options in Serie A such as Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic or Lazio’s Luiz Felipe, plus names abroad like Benoit Badiashile of Monaco and Becir Omeragic of Zurich.

  1. I hope we don’t make it to last 16 & Europa League . Lets just concentrate on the SCUDETTO. We can win it if only have that target to fight for

    1. Are you well? Do you know how much Milan gets from UEFA for making it into last 16?

Do you know how much that improves the teams ranking and gets them better draws?

Scudetto is possible and making the last 16 of UCL won’t be too much of a burden.
