Di Marzio: Liverpool striker’s arrival in Italy to sign for Milan delayed – the reason

By Oliver Fisher -

Divock Origi’s arrival in Italy and subsequent medical will be slightly delayed because of a slight muscle problem, according to a report.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Origi will remain in England for another week because he wants to undergo treatments for the injury that had kept him out of the last two matches of the season, against Wolves in the Premier League and against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

After he has fully healed, he will fly to Italy before carrying out medical examinations with Milan. In the meantime the Rossoneri are preparing and formalising the contract so that it can be signed when he arrives.

The Belgian made 175 appearances for Liverpool and scored 41 goals, winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup in his time there and earning a reputation for being the man for the big occasion, netting in the Merseyside derby, in UCL semi-finals and finals.

  1. is this really a good piece of business?

I get it, he is free, but will he not just trade Liverpool’s bench for ours?

    1. If he can do for us what he did for Liverpool coming off the bench, I’m OK with that. He made very important goals for Liverpool and always brings danger when coming in. That is very useful, espacially in Serie A.

    2. We don’t really have anyone on the bench atm. And our bench is generally starter by the 6th week. Same was said about giroud.

  2. Ah dang, thought we were gonna pass and get Belotti instead. Why would we ever take a true rossonero like Belotti when we can take a Liverpool bench star??….. meh, not excited

    1. I feel exactly the same way. Origi may younger than Belotti but given the age difference is 16 months, I feel Belotti would be a better signing as he would settle in much faster. He knows the language, the culture, the league and as you pointed out, he’s a Milanista.
Belotti would probably be on less wages too.

  3. This is an EXCELLENT piece of business. Origi will score 20+ goals for us next season.

He is a fantastic player and he will NOT be a bench player for us. He will be a star.

  4. I have never seen him play excellent…what we really need is football IQ at number 9 (a play who is able to play with his back to goal) there are not much of them….Origi Giroud Rebic arent those profiles!!

  5. Well Nesta than I guess you didn’t watch him play. Did you see him versus Everton this year? Or any of the FA Cup or League Cup matches? Did you watch him play in Champions League semifinals and finals when he scored in both the year Liverpool won the Champions League? Did you watch him play for Belgium scoring big goals in World Cup?

Obviously you didn’t so you can’t talk about something you know nothing about.

    1. Exactly. And Milan have had lots of “backup” strikers over the years who end up scoring when it counts. Daniele Massaro, Marco Simone, Maurizio Ganz and Jon Dahl Tomasson come to mind.
