Di Marzio: Man Utd interest in Zirkzee further solidified by ten Hag contact

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan have spent months pursuing Joshua Zirkzee, but it seems they could lose a deal in the 11th hour, given Manchester United have driven up their own pursuit of the Dutchman, and the Rossoneri’s attempts have been stalled.

The Zirkzee situation is one that many would refer to as a perfect example of modern football. As we know, the player reportedly wants the move, and Bologna are helpless due to the release clause in the Dutchman’s contract.

However, his agent, Kia Joorabchian, has halted a move, due to his extremely high commission demands, which are adding an extra €15 million to the deal. Of course, commissions exist in every deal, and the Rossoneri are happy to pay one, just not at the amount being demanded currently.

A side who could, though, is Manchester United, and in recent weeks, they have quickly risen in the race for the striker. Today, their interest has been further solidified after Gianluca Di Marzio (via Radio Rossonera) claimed that Erik ten Hag had been in contact with the youngster.

According to the journalist, the Dutch manager sees Zirkzee as ‘one of the most important goals to reinforce the squad’, and with this in mind, the Red Devils will likely be happy to pay the money that Milan currently will not.

Of course, the decision remains to be made by Zirkzee, but with contacts occurring between the player and the manager, perhaps the pendulum could be swinging.

  1. I think at this point it’s fair to assume that a Man Utd move is more likely than a Milan one. If so, have fun sitting on the bench whilst the roof leaks Joshua!

  2. “As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, there is a disconnect between the ideas of his agent and the player. For Kia Joorabchian, his agent, Arsenal calls, given his connections with the Gunners’ sporting director and their ability to offer a strong financial proposal.

However, Zirkzee is reluctant to move to England, currently. Instead, the report suggests he would like to stay in Serie A.“

You reported on this a while ago

…his agent wants him to go to England and his agent gets to pick (quote a commission number to any team he doesn’t want him at that is too high and if they agree go higher).

  3. United has a budged of 30 mils and they need to sell in order to buy. I dont see them selling anyone worth some cash atm except Bruno who is unlikely to leave. With this money lets say max 40 even 50 they have other big holes to fill and i dont think they will use that money on Zirkzee alone who will cost nearly 60 mils

    1. Hahaha who told you united has a budget of 30? More like a budget of 100 and than they are getting money for sancho and greenwood which is another 75 million.

  4. He will go to MU . Just like kia bring tevez to juve when galliani want to buy tevez. Kia power can forcing player move to the club that can pay high fee agent

  5. Man U isnt even in UCL… they barely made it into Europa league. And Zirkzee isn’t even guaranteed a starting spot. Milan is still the logical choice.

I feel some of these articles are made to try and pressure interested clubs (like Milan) to pay the agent’s commissions.

    1. You have pretty much summed it up!

I reckon that Kia will end up lowering the agent fee to push the deal through, settling for just under €10m and a few performance-based agency fees.
