Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has discussed the friendship between Kylian Mbappe and Mike Maignan after the former’s comments at The Best awards about playing for AC Milan.
Speaking to Sky Sport about the situation (via Milan News), Di Marzio shed some light on another reason why Mbappe has a soft spot for Milan.
It has already been reported that Mbappe’s babysitter was a Milan fan and came from a family of Milan supporters which meant they have always been his Italian team. When asked if he would come to Serie A, Mbappe responded with ‘only for AC Milan’.
Another reason, as Di Marzio explains, is that Mbappe is close friends with Milan goalkeeper Maignan and is of course also friends with Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez.
“He had already stated some time ago in an interview that he appreciated AC Milan a lot since he was a child, but in France there is really the cult of AC Milan of yesteryear because so many French people were in love with Milan and supported them. Evidently he has been spoken to very highly of Milan and Maignan, who is a close friend of Mbappé, will sing the praises of the Rossoneri club to him,” Di Marzio said.
He was quick to point out though that there is clearly no negotiation between Milan and the player to bring him to the club. That is a move that Milan certainly cannot attempt financially.
“Obviously there is no negotiation of any kind, but this appreciation fills one with pride and brings a smile to one’s face,” he said.
