Di Marzio: Milan close to Emerson agreement despite conflicting reports

AC Milan are close to finding the final agreement with Tottenham for Brazilian defender Emerson Royal, but other reports claim the deal is going to fall through.

A report from Gianluca Di Marzio for Sky Sport Italia (via Milan News) has claimed that the deal is very close and Emerson is likely to be Milan’s next signing after Strahinja Pavlovic.

The negotiations between the two clubs have gone on for many weeks and it seemed like the gap was too wide, and Ben Jacobs reported earlier in the day that Emerson is no longer a priority for Milan and they will be addressing other areas of the squad instead.

Di Marzio does not include specific details about the deal with Tottenham but the Premier League side has been holding out for a fee of around €20m, whilst Milan were hovering around the €10-15m mark.

The hope is that the former Barcelona defender can compete with Davide Calabria for the right-back spot and even be the long-term replacement for him if the Italian moves on at the end of his current contract.

Signing Emerson would allow Milan to focus even more heavily on signing a midfielder and a new striker to compete with Alvaro Morata.
