Di Marzio: Milan face competition for signing of RB Leipzig man; Thiago Silva wants return

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are competing with multiple teams for the signing of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed.

The defensive department is expected to undergo changes this summer with Ralf Rangnick set to arrive as the club’s new head coach and sporting director.

We reported via our mercato correspondent Vito Angele yesterday that Rangnick is keeping a close eye on is Upamecano. The RB Leipzig defender’s contract will expire in 2021 and should he fail to reach a renewal agreement with the German side, Milan could get him at a good price.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio has told Sky Italia (via MilanNews) that Milan face heavy competition for the 21-year-old defender.

Meanwhile, Thiago Silva would welcome a return to the Rossoneri, but it is necessary to understand whether the club’s management would break their policy to secure a reunion.

At the moment there has not yet been any contact between the parties, with Fiorentina instead having already taken the first steps to try to conclude a new Ribery-style operation.
