Di Marzio: Milan keen to try for Jonathan David – they ‘would like to invest’ in him

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio believes that AC Milan have a keen eye on Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential option ‘for the future’.

Di Marzio spoke on Sky (via MilanNews) last night and he revealed that the Milan management also have a close eye on David’s situation given that he has a deal which expires in June 2024.

He states that the Rossoneri ‘want to try’ for the Canada international and that he ‘would keep David’s name alive for the future’ because he is a player in whom Milan ‘would like to invest’.

Milan have been linked with David plenty in the past when it looked like they would spend big on a new centre-forward but ultimately that large investment has not yet arrived.

The 23-year-old has been in immense form for Lille, scoring 13 league goals in his first season (2020-21) and following that up with 15 goals the next year, 24 goals last season and two in three games so far this campaign.

Milan have great relations with Lille also, as shown by the Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan and Tiago Djalo deals that have taken place in recent seasons.

  1. I’ll be glad if we could try to sign him given he’s young, talented , good on 1 v 1, good scorer and yet has room for improvement and also goes with our transfer policy of young players, this will be a win win for all parties. Considering he’s entering the final year of his contract is also a plus

    1. No one. If David agrees terms with Milan. Milan can spent 50 million per year, if qualify for Champions league every year. When they release Caldara for free, sell Saelemaekers, that’s enough space for one 40 million signing but you can’t spent more.
We can see that now we need reinforcement in defense and not just in attack.

      1. Oh i didn’t think this through. I forgot we are going to sell CDK next season. Maybe if we get rid of Origi for 10, Salad for 10 and 28 for CDK. We will have 50 to invest. Sell Bennacer and get Gavenberch or any starting defensive midfielder. Also, Krunic if any offer above 8M comes and get Dominguez for bench depth. We will still have the 30-35 mil which will be allotted every season. So we buy a replacement for Kjaer and then our squad will be complete.

        1. @Doki, who in hell gives a 10 mil for Origi? I mean you don’t have to be that idio t. You know, imagine you own a club or you are responsible for transfers… Would you pay 10 mil for Origi????

          1. SPL maybe. If no club wants him this summer then that could be his last resort coz he ain’t getting any minutes here in Milan. I don’t know what kind of mentality he has but there is no room for him to fight his place for so Saudi should be his last resort. We did hear about him rejecting 2 Saudi Clubs this summer but that was before our US Tour.

        2. Already playing FM summer transfers 2024? Other than players that are not in the plans (such as Origi), I don’t think we’ll need to sell anyone else next summer. I particularly don’t think Bennacer needs to be sold. Why? If there is a “opportune” departure my bet is that it will be one of Tomori or Kalulu. Then we’ll have the usual 50m transfer budget assuming we qualify for the CL. Tomori and Kalulu could each fetch 30m. So that’s 80m. Use 50m for a top striker and 30m for a good CB. Bennacer will continue to be our starting DM, with Krunic as backup, and if Krunic leaves his replacement (Dominguez?) will be funded from that sale. Honestly, we only really need to add a young proven striker next summer and we might just use the entire transfer fund on that and we’d be fine. Don’t forget the defensive talent coming up in the primavera.

    1. I think a top striker will be our priority next summer, and the inevitable sale of Bennacer would probably (at least almost fully) finance the move, but I agree, it would be daft to think our bid would go unchallenged by the English.

    2. PL clubs CAN afford him. So why haven’t they bid? Maybe they see something we’re not seeing. David doesn’t seem like the traditional physical profile for a no. 9. Same issue with Balogun.

  2. According to transfermarkt, Jonathan David’s contract ends June 30, 2025, and his current market value is set at €60million

  3. This article wrong , his contract expire on june 2025. Maybe next year AC Milan will negotiate with lille after his contract left 1 years ( if he choose not renew with lille) . For now his price are 60m euro , if he dont renew until next summer ,his price will down to 30m euro and thats what ACM want

  4. Ya David will be 50-60M and has contract until 2025…

Personally I’m not so high on David as a #9 to lead the line. He disappointed at the WC. I would have rather signed Wahi or Openda when we had the chance at 35M each…Anyways he’s signed for another 2 years so wouldn’t get hopes up high
