Igli Tare has changed his mind on the centre-back position. After publicly stating that a signing wasn’t in the plans, ‘several meetings’ resulted in a new decision.
Since the game against Cremonese, which certainly highlighted some defensive flaws, the fans have been crying out for a centre-back to be signed. It seems Max Allegri did the same in his meeting with Tare, as Milan are now evaluating the centre-back market.

It goes against what Tare said before the Cremonese game, stating that the manager hadn’t asked for a centre-back at that point. In any case, while Koni De Winter was brought in earlier this summer, the questionable performances of the other centre-backs mean there is still quality lacking.
Centre-back pursuit begins
Speaking to Sky Italia late last night, as transcribed by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio broke the news that Milan are looking to sign a key centre-back. The decision was made after several meetings between Allegri and Tare.
“The news is that Milan are signing a defender. The decision was made today [yesterday]. There were several meetings, before and after training, between Allegri and Tare. It was decided to look for a key defender who can further strengthen Milan’s defence, beyond De Winter.
“Now we’ll see which player Milan will go for. It’s still a decision made today [yesterday], so the market will be explored now, but the news is that Milan intend to sign a centre-back,” he stated.
Milan evaluated several targets before they signed De Winter, so it’s not like they are starting from scratch in their pursuit. Still, it’s a little late to decide that you want a centre-back.

I don’t agree. He’s very raw, but let’s not forget he’s young and hasn’t played a lot in Serie A. When he’s on his worst, he’s very bad, but last season he was our best CB in several matches, even leading by example. We need that spirit. The real problem is nobody places trust in the team and everybody starts panicking when we lose a game 1-2 with expected goals 1.88 – 0.28 and a f’ing overhead kick. You’d literally win every other match with these statistics (it’s exactly the same as Napoli’s). Sometimes it’s just bad luck. Inter and Napoli will have it as well during the season. There’s no reason for any panic. The team is good enough to fight for CL qualification. Just give it time and a few tweaks (like, Fofana shouldn’t be the player who keeps coming in the position to shoot on goal. Maybe advance Modric and bring back Ricci). Friday v Lecce we will win comfortably. Forza Milan!
Pavlovic does not have the technical level to play at this level. A CB cannot be so poor with the ball in modern football. And he is also not very good at reading danger in the box. Same as Tomori. A CB should be the priority, but we need a very good one.
You can find a mascot to raise the spirit. Doesn’t mean he has to play in the first team? He can’t defend, everything else, I don’t care.
@Matijs van de Sande: finally somebody with common sense. If you read these articles, Milan are almost in Serie B. Juventus had worse stats than us against Parma who could easily have scored. The difference is they have a centre forward and we don´t. But if we trade Saelemaekers for Vlahovic, I´m holding Allegri accountable if we don´t win Serie A this year. That would be a really stupid move
We can’t call Pavlovic young. He is playing for his national Team for years now. The simple fact is he is not good enough. The 2 major flaws in his game are stated below:
1. Low technical ability on the ball
2. Low positional awareness.
Pavlovic caused Milan lots of goals last season and he is responsible for the calamity this season.
Those that signed pavlovic got it wrong .Although I know they are limited with budget but we can do better with the cost used to sign pavlovic.
They won’t sign him to replace him but since he is left footed it will happen. If Kiwior or another left footed defender joins. You know Pavlovic is probably worse than the other guy, doesn’t matter who it is.
I really hope this isn’t the end for Gabbia.
It’ll be even more of a struggle this season and might tip me over be edge.
I’m on knife edge about continuing with Milan.

Been obvious for weeks. Chukwueze out shortly. Leao and Pulisic to follow next summer probably. And in with another striker a la Vlahovic. So we’ll have a 3-5-2, with Rabiot, RLC and Modric (if we’re lucky, otherwise another DM), and two Vlahovics up top. Slow, boring, predictable. 1-0 is the goal.
We must sign a left footed side back who can play also as a defender not the opposite.

Akanji 17.5M. They should go all in for him. Kiwior loan with obligation 26M that Porto already agreed. I honestly doubt Kiwior would say no if Tare went for him today and Ibrahimovic also called him. You transform the defence and you keep Redbird their profit since Kiwior transfer will be finished later. We’ll get another Temu defender. Just watch.

Remember when this website was telling everyone not to freak out yet earlier in the summer b/c there was plenty of time? No one was freaking out, we were simply logically looking at the situation based on past behavior from this management. And here we are and it’s you guys who are saying “oh boy it’s a little late”. You think!?!?
How’s that a “late decision” … We needed a quality CB even before this season started, even before Thiaw was sold …
Exactly, it should have been done and completed over a month ago. As soon as we had the Tiji money, we should have gotten a CB that is ready to start right now not in 6 months or a year and here we are with 3 starting CBs that are really back ups and two new defenders that are also probably back ups. As we saw in the first match, we can’t let bottom of the table teams to score 2 or more goals on us every game, we’ll never finish in the top 4 with that kind of record.
