Di Marzio urges Serie A clubs to follow Milan model and invest in infrastructure

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan have always received a lot of praise for their training ground, Milanello, but also the facilities they have for the academy system. A model that Gianluca Di Marzio believes other Serie A clubs should follow.

As if Milanello wasn’t enough, Milan also have the sports centre of Vismara, where the youth academy and the women’s team train. Even if the academy has struggled in recent years, there is no doubt that the infrastructure is there.

Just like we have seen with the stadiums in Serie A, the infrastructure is also slacking behind in other areas and the training ground is one of them. While Milan have it covered, many clubs don’t, as highlighted by Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews).

“Milan has a cutting-edge sports centre, other clubs unfortunately don’t have one to date. Cannavaro, the new manager of Benevento, has asked for a training ground. A request that makes us reflect in 2022. Milan have always been at the forefront from this point of view. It’s a pity that it hasn’t been emulated by others.

“Abroad there are clubs that invest a lot, especially in the infrastructure. In Italy, on the other hand, sometimes we invest for some unknown foreigner and not for infrastructures also dedicated to the development of young players,” he stated.

The top clubs in Italy, such as Inter and Juventus, are already on this path but many of the smaller teams are really hurting because of their facilities. In 2022, as Di Marzio highlights, this shouldn’t be the case in a top-five league.

  1. This is one of the reason why Serie-A is far behind compare to other big leagues such as EPL or Bundesligue.

It’s just crazy that only Milan and a few big clubs like Inter or Juve who have training ground 🤦‍♂️
