Di Marzio: Milan offered chance to sign Aston Villa striker – details

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have been given the opportunity to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran but there are some registration issues that could make a move unlikely.

As has been reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri could bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season by adding Duran to the team.

The 20-year-old striker from Colombia only has a limited role in the team right now but he has scored two goals in the Premier League this season. He has also scored twice in the Europa Conference League.

One major complication with any potential deal is that, being from Colombia, Duran would need to occupy a non-EU slot when Milan came to register him. Milan do not have a spare slot so would need to release someone else.

It is not yet clear what the format of the proposed move is but given Duran cost Aston Villa almost €17m when he joined in January 2023 from Chicago Fire, they would presumably want a loan with an option or obligation to buy.

Milan certainly want to add a striker in January but it is not clear how much interest they hold in Duran at this stage of the transfer window.

  1. Why? You can just bring back Colombo. If they will bring a striker it needs to be either a top striker that will bench Giroud and send him out of the club next season or an experienced striker that can alternate with Giroud and Jovic and score goals. A 20 year old kid that never played in Italy, not really.

  2. Ok now there is Duran Duran, maybe loan with option to buy, is more logical if we don’t want to pay for striker. He could be the next Zapata or Hojlund clearly have potential in upcoming season
