AC Milan tried until the very end to get Malick Thiaw to stay at the club and renew his contract, according to a report, but he was already set on joining Newcastle.
The negotiations between Milan and Newcastle were closed rather quickly in the end, following an offer of around €40m, but the path to get there wasn’t clear-cut. After positive indications during pre-season, in fact, Max Allegri was growing quite fond of the player.

It’s one of several reasons why Milan upped the price tag from €25m, which they had agreed on with Como, to around €35m-40m. But even when faced with so much money, the Rossoneri didn’t exactly cheer when they accepted the offer.
A renewal and a key role
According to Sky Italia, via Gianluca Di Marzio, sporting director Igli Tare and Allegri tried to convince Thiaw to stay. A contract renewal with a significant pay rise was put on the table, as well as a leading role in the team, but the German defender ‘had already chosen Newcastle’.

In light of that, Milan decided to accept Newcastle’s offer once the English side reached the necessary figures. For Thiaw, the Champions League factor certainly played a big part as that’s why he rejected Como earlier in the summer (despite a hefty contract offer).
Now, Milan will have to find a replacement before the end of the transfer window. They will have the funds to do so, but at the same time, selling clubs can thus demand a high fee.

Furlani’s man management at milan is shambolic.
Oh please, you guys shut it with all these Furlani Complaint. Who were playing the shoddy games and didn’t qualify for champs last season.
If the lad wants to leave, let him go. So far the same management have shown that they still mean business after their mistakes of last season.
Furlani is a rat. Maybe you can ask him out on a date.
You mean the same business that got us into 8th? Lol 🤣🤣
Wholesale chopping and changing each transfer window is not how to run a club. Neither is it a way to ensure success.
Yes, Furlani is the best. Maignan story is enough. You verbally agree a contract and then go back on your word. He is a rat.
Tare is doing better. And I’m glad they brought Tare on board. It appears he’s doing stuff on his own.
Furlani though… he does need to go with Thiaw lol.
You can’t put that solely on the players, Furlani did nothing in really strengthening the team and that goes for both players and coaches. The only reason he is still in charge is because he is a yes man, think about it, they failed much worse than Maldini did with CDK and origi, Emerson alone was worse than both. Origi hardly scored but at least he didn’t cost us goals over and over
His transfermarkt value is just €18m.
Han hade insett att ledningen är clowner
We became JOKE of a club!!!! Cardinale OUT
I think you’re the joke here
I think those who are claiming to want the owners out for selling Thiaw for 40M to a PL team are either fans of other Serie A teams and went to spread division or they are AC Milan fans but want are swept up by their hate for the owners and their management or they also are taken to suddenly believing that Thiaw is a start man.
No matter the way you look at it, Milan can actually get a CB who can be an upgrade from Thiaw and that player might be Italian or not. But with 40M you can get a decent upgrade from Thiaw and still have some left over to cover the transfer of a ST. It is very late in the window but it is a good deal
The comment for JOKE of a club was not because of selling Thiaw, selling Thiaw for those money actually is great decision!!! But this ownership and management are not deserving ACM!!!
100% agree. joke club because joke desicions
Anyone that says Milan is a joke because they sold defender that is a major liability and has been all last season, for 40 million is either brain dead or forgot to take the meds. This is an excellent work by Milan management – get rid of players who are not performing well and don’t want to be here and bring in ones that do.

It’s good work but for me it’s only a start, after last season they still have a lot to prove and in all honesty it was probably Tare behind the dealings.
Milan management have not shown any signs of foresight to pull this deal off
Despite Thiaws flaws from time to time I’ve always liked the player but if we actually is getting roughly 40 mil for him then I will argue its not the worst of deals at least if we have a an equal or better replacement in our sights and can strike a deal in time. It would be interesting if we also sells Musah and then maybe tries to bring in both Comuzzo and Leoni while also offloading Bennacer and Adli and either buys Vlahovic cheaply or loans Højlund with an option. I generally is hesitant to come with such proclamations but it could actually be feasible this time around with that sort of money. The words of an “Italiazation” would then also become a promise upheld.
“The words of an “Italiazation” would then also become a promise upheld.”
Pretty much the same false promises that got the POTUS elected in the States. Italiazation… More like DeItalization…
Lol…
First story: Milan willing to sell Thiaw Thiaw.
Fans reaction: “stupid management, don’t sell Thiaw Thiaw, He’s our best defender” and all.
Second story, the report changes: Milan tried to keep Thiaw with improved offer.
Fans reaction: “Milan is a joke, Shambolic, Cardinale out”
There’s absolutely nothing that can be done in which a sadist wouldn’t pinpoint fault to rant.
Moral of the story:
Without love, you give out hate.
Get some love, it is very important.
I think Thiaw / liberali never been offered a new contract from milan. Only sweetener from the media…
Whatever rocks your boat buddy.
LOL. Yep. This forum is for venting only. No positive comments allowed. This or that, it’s always the wrong decision. And you must insult the other commentators too. It’s a must.
40m for Thiaw is a good business they should just look for a better replacement for him
I guess we start our second soap opera of the summer: Thiaw replacement.
Leoni + Barts + this monster Coubis can roll through and develop while one of Tomorri, Pav, or Gabbia is held or as a sub.
While I love that idea it’s not historically how Allegri has handled youngsters.
Also CB is key to the terrorist football scheme so I am guessing we’ve already been inquiring about Kiwior, Kim and others like them.
De Winter. Genoa didn’t much of anything last season, but their defense was the reason why they stayed up in the Serie A. And De Winter was part of that solid defense. Plus he can play as a RB.
70~ appearances in Serie A football and 23 years old. Recently nationally team capped too.
Watch an extra 10 to 15 million be tagged on the next defender. They had better made an agreement for his replacement before selling.
Ask for 50M. And get the 40M fee agreed with Parma. While you’re at it get rid of Pavlovic and buy Comuzzo.

With two years on contract remaining this is a good sale if it is true Thiaw rejected a contract extension. Next summer he would have had one year remaining and we would have been in that drama with his value halved. Now we get full value if not over value. My concern is transfer winow remaining and the price of proper replacements. Let’s see what happens.
Some here need to remember their meds. Thiaw was likely to have leave for 20-25 million if he left earlier. Transfermarketweb has him at 18 million. Selling him for 40 million… whoever would say no is nuts.
Are you out of your mind?
We have enough time left to sign reinforcements. But to pass up 40 million for a player that is wildly inconsistent is madness.
Also, he wanted to leave.
And my preference is De Winter. He was part of Genoa’s solid defense, and is a very versatile player who can play as CB and RB. 23 years old, and has 70~ appearances in the Serie A. Probably 25-30 million.

Man management is poor. They had no faith on their own abilities to resuscitate the players whose form has dropped, and didn’t acknowledge their part in the mess. Thiaw at a time was solid, then made some mistakes. Gabbia was solid then slipped and causes he goal. Both players dipped in form. Tomori stays because he is our fastest defender, pavlovic stays because of the aggression and on field grinta.
Why did management agree a renewal and the refuse to finalize it for maignan? Why accept a transfer fee for liberalli and only after remember you forgot to renew him? Why accept an offer from como for Thiaw when it only suited you? Why be even more foolish and offer him a contract after he agreed to go to the EPL and play CL football with Tonalli?
Lack of respect! The players see it,they feel it too and respond likewise. No attachment to the club. We and our players are Merryweather friends at best.
Tare might try to fix things, but he’s fighting with one arm tied behind his back. If heads didnt roll after the shit show last season, then no player should be blamed for their actions. Management lacked cohesion and vision and it showed on the pitch.
I hope this assembly of players performs better this season
Good money! I just hope we get an upgrade and soon.
Does anyone else have a weird feeling that Allegri will talk the management into panic buying Rugani and Vlahovic in the last week of the window? 🤦♂️
