Di Marzio: Milan meet Stuttgart to discuss striker and ‘other attackers’

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management held a meeting with their counterparts from Bundesliga side Stuttgart this morning, according to a report.

As Gianluca Di Marzio reports, Milan’s season is now practically over given that the last game is on Saturday against Salernitana and there is nothing to play for. The planning for next season has therefore obviously already begun.

Today, Wednesday 22 May, there was a meeting between the Rossoneri and Stuttgart. The theme of the dialogue was the mercato with the Rossoneri continuing to work for Serhou Guirassy – who was already of interest to them in January – and ‘other attackers’.

The meeting took place this morning and ended shortly after 11am. In the hours to come we should learn more about which players are of interest to Milan from Stuttgart, who finished in the Champions League places after an excellent campaign.

Meanwhile, Di Marzio adds that Rossoneri’s first choice for the role of head coach remains Paulo Fonseca, with whom the leaders are increasingly convinced of moving forward.

However, they must negotiate with the current manager Stefano Pioli regarding his exit, given that it would be a costly pay-out to sack him and his staff with a year left on his deal and thus they will look to mutually terminate the contract.

  1. If he technically fits the team, just sign him.
He still has some years to give to the team.
Unless the management think about future sale profit.

  2. If that is true then it is completely ridiculous how this club is being managed. They did not appoint a coach yet, and they are talking about signing new player, so the coach would have nothing to say in terms of which player profile suits him best.

I also don’t get this arguments that I’ve seen in the past, that “Milan is looking for a coach that will play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1” like Pioli did. But this just did not work out with Pioli. Partly beause he did not have a position number “6” (only person that could fit that was Krunic, we was not great but he could play there) and did not have a real “10”. Pulisic might be one to play there, but it’s not his preferred position, instead who is playing there – Loftus Cheek? Not to menion side defenders – Theo is more like a defensive-winger or even left-midifielder (something like used in 3-5-2), and Calabria is… not good enough.

So this “4-2-3-1” just does not work, and also they don’t have players that exactly fit that idea, but yet they force a coach that will keep using that formation and they are picking forward themselves without coach approval.

  3. Remember when I told you that instead of top coach and top striker we will get Fonesca/MvB and the one season wonder Guirassy or something. Well well well so long the talk of mr Gerry Anale about wining titles 🤡 And to all the Redbird supporters enjoy being the Tottenham of Italy – buy low sell high club , because at the end a stadium doesn’t build it self 😂 I guess the abons plus the shirts I was planning to buy will go for something more useful

  4. To be honest I’d sooner spend less on a striker and get a Guirassy or David and invest in Buongiorno for the defence. Torino shows the sh!t show we have at the back right now. We are locking a brain and I think Buongiorno could be it. Games are won by strikers, titles are won by defences…Milan fans should know that more than anyone

    1. “Games are won by strikers, titles are won by defences…”

This. How many different number 9s did we have failing before Giroud? Dozen? We don’t necessarily need a 30-goals-per-season number 9 if we have the best defense in the league. Pulisic & Leao (+Chukwu) can score too. But the defense… Wow. Catastrophic.

    2. You are clearly delusional if you think Milan will spend more than 20 miles on a player this summer 🤡🤡😂

        1. The 40 mils for Buongiorno or missed targets like Calafiori who now costs at least 30-40 are as well causa perduta. Well some 19 y old defender from League 1 I would have agreed 😂 Zirkzee ain’t 60 btw but there are so many other good strikers to be looked at even in Italy Scamacca for example – but we will get Pinamonti or smth

  5. @drew and @bb . I agree, defense wins championships. We had injuries and that probably played a part but in my opinion, a huge part of why we sucked in defense was because we did not have a true DM. Kessie was our last guy who could do it. This exposed our CBs deficiencies. Tomori and Thiaw (even Gabbia and Kalulu) arent world beaters, they are good, still young and can grow but if we leave them exposed, they will suffer and that’s what happened. IMHO get a DM and watch how magically our CBs “returned” to good form.

      1. Or get a coach who will make all the 10 players work as a team for 90 mins twice a week. Then there is no need for a DM.
