Di Marzio: Milan eye up two names to join U23 side

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have identified two players who could become the first signings for their U23 side that will play in Serie C next season.

As has been reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio is starting to look at which players could comprise the first-ever Milan U23 squad, with the bulk obviously coming from the youth ranks.

As well as those young stars, some names more familiar with the Serie C level would also be helpful and D’Ottavio has turned to Genoa and Juve Stabia, and in particular Christos Papadopoulos and Andrea Adorante.

Registration for the 2024/25 season is not yet entirely secure for Milan but they have to start planning the team just in case they are allowed entry into the Italian third team where Juventus’ Next Gen side and Atalanta U23s also play.

Papadopoulos is owned by Genoa and has been very impressive for the Primavera side. He actually earned his first call-up to the senior team and played in the 3-3 draw against Milan. He was born in 2004.

Adorante is more experienced having been born in 2000 and he came through the Inter youth ranks. He joined Juve Stabia in January and scored 12 goals in 18 games, helping them reach Serie B.

  1. The positive part is that management thinks U23 will be done this year, and that’s a step in the right direction.

    1. Yep , ACM will have team in serie C like juve did. Thats good for young talent. I hope abate will coaching them

  2. if they want to buy an attacker from serie c which i doubt is the case then maybe it would make more sense to get Cristian Shpendi. More prolific and younger at the age of 20 than the 24 year old Adorante. He will cost more but it should still be at a fairly low cost considering his valuation of 2 mil at transfermarkt.
