Di Marzio: Milan contact Union Berlin for Portuguese defender – the dropping price

A central defender is among the priorities for AC Milan in the summer mercato, and several names are being evaluated for the position. Today, a report has emerged about the status of one player that the Rossoneri are pursuing.

Last season, the issues in the defence were clear, and the lack of depth proved to be a killer in the race for the Scudetto. The winter months are tough at the best of times due to the amount of games thrown at clubs by the calendar, but Milan struggled more than others because of their repeated injuries.

Fikayo Tomori, Simon Kjaer, Pierre Kalulu, and Malick Thiaw all spent extended time on the sidelines, and this cannot be an issue again next season. Therefore, investment in the central areas of defence is planned.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via Milan News) has claimed that contacts between Union Berlin and the Diavolo have continued for Diogo Leite, and he is a concrete option for Milan. Currently, he is valued at €18 million, but this is ‘destined to go down’, Di Marzio states.

Furthermore, he added that Milan’s interest in Emerson Royal is still strong, but there is a distance between the Rossoneri and Tottenham about his price, and given the need for other positions, the budget may be lessened in that area to fund more prominent issues.

  1. How about we sign an actual Italian star! It’s f@cking embarrassing that Italy go into the euros and not a single Milan player is wearing the azzuri

    1. Yeah it’s crazy isn’t it? We have multiple starters for France and USA but not even a single player on the Italy roster

  2. You know that hiroki ito “who isn’t good enough for Milan” was bought by bayern.

I’m game for this random Portugal dude. If he’s cheap enough.. but they better don’t act like he is some big reinforcement

  3. We didn’t have a depth issue in defence. We had 5 or 6 centre backs which is more than ample. We had an injury crisis where none of them were available. Having more than less helps, yes but with more.. redundancy increases at a fast pace. What we need to fix is the physio/fitness department

    1. Could not agree with you more!

Further, CBs work best in pairs or triples. Ours never had a chance to get that level of familiarity.

I do agree with @Goku about Thiaw. His comeback seemed far more mental than fitness. I hope he gets his head on straight this summer.

  4. How is he any better than what we got ie tomori, thiaw, gabia, kalulu? We also have simic. If we are signing lets sign a genine star! Calafiori or Sclavini would be nice.

    1. This makes great sense to me too. We had solid starters and depth at CB already.

So if we want to get one, it should only be to grab a very clear upgrade with purpose.

  5. If it’s a left footed CB we are looking for… why not challange Juve for Calafiori??

Not that Broja is much of a challange, but i do like the way the kid (Calafiori) is playing today. Fast and good in the challanges. And we need some Italians tbh.

  6. I see why we aren’t for any Italy players. Goodness me the struggle against Albania was embarrassing. They nearly equalized many times. Italy lacks quality.

    1. Non of your current CB has been called up for their respective selection, at Calafiori plays as a starter, it’s the 1st or second time spalletti put him in the starting line up

  7. Idc dropping price or not he didn’t even shined at Porto he didn’t do to Union Berlin either. Also if you checking Germany try and sign ASAP Maximilian Beier
