Di Marzio: Milan are ‘working to close’ two deals – the names

By Ben Dixon -

The ongoing mercato has been heavily anticipated for AC Milan. Paulo Fonseca’s arrival, you could argue, was the biggest signing of the summer, and now, others must join him, and a report from today suggests that some could be soon.

Work had been ongoing way before Fonseca’s arrival to prepare for the summer, meaning no matter who came into the vacant seat on the touchline, they were not entering a void of mercato ideas, and now is the time to put those ideas into action.

Four areas are being targeted, and it seems that three of the areas could be solved, or at least partially solved, shortly.

As Gianluca Di Marzio stated when speaking on his podcast, Milan are nearing two additions to their squad, and he also took stock of the Rossoneri’s other mercato focuses, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.

“Four-year contract ready for Morata. Milan are also thinking seriously about Fullkrug, who is considering leaving Germany, and contacts are expected at the beginning of the week. The Rossoneri are also working to close Fofana and Pavlovic.”

Of course, there is a lot of time left to add to the squad, but getting additions through the doors early in the window can be hugely positive in the season, which Fonseca will be keen to do.

      1. You sure? I’m pretty confident he usually lines up with a 4 man defense. I could be wrong, only watched Lille European games not Ligue 1

      2. Where did you get that ?
Last season there wasn’t a single Lille game where they didn’t start with either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, not a single one.

      3. He plays the same ideas two different ways. He’s played 3 in the back with Roma but if they get a strong dm, he will have them drop between the can on defense and play a 3-2-5 in attack…out of the 3-4-3 turns into the same thing with the fullbacks pushed up. He is flexible to the talents of the players. They do the same thing, it’s just about the players available

        1. I was being sarcastic, since you had Maignan on top it looked like you read it
          goalkeeper
          defense
          midfield
          attack
and the left and right were reversed
          but nevermind

  1. Window is still early despite the angst of not moving quicker. Getting all those targets wouldn’t be so bad. It wouldn’t be a great leap in quality but if that’s what they had in mind oh well

  2. Players need time to adapt and in order to do well in a club, need to start as soon as possible to benefit from training camp, summer friendly games and allow the coach to test them to see how and where they work best and thus make the necessary adjustments to his system and tactics and, if necessary, request an additional player or decide to exclude one or many players from his project.
So I think it’s clear that the sooner we get those players the better, and dragging the deal because we don’t want to pay an extra 5M€ isn’t in our favor because it will AT BEST delay the arrival of said player or players and in some cases (as it already happened) will see us lose our targets to a higher bidder, forces us back to square 1.
Aside from Morata who will be playing tomorrow, we pretty much have no excuses to “delay” a transaction, Inter, Juve and Napoli have already bought some players at this point.
We were going to pay 40M€ for Zirkzee and now it’s Morata for 13M€. Their contracts are pretty much the same (I even think Morata has a less gross salary because of regulations) so we pretty much gained 27M€ !! So why are we starting (and seemingly don’t want to pay more than) 12-15M€ for Fofana and less than 20M€ for Pavlovic ? Just wrap it up already…
The only 3 reasons I think of as an explanation are:
a- The management wants to buy many players and not just 4, hence they need each one to be as cheap as possible, which doesn’t make sense because we don’t need that many reinforcements.
b- The summer budget is ONLY made of the revenues+whatever we got from selling CDK, Krunic,… so the 80-90M€ some articles estimated are totally made up and we have a way smaller budget than what was advertised.
c- The management is just plain stupid.

    1. “Players need time to adapt and in order to do well in a club, need to start as soon as possible to benefit from training camp, summer friendly games and allow the coach to test them to see how and where they work best and thus make the necessary adjustments to his system and tactics and, if necessary, request an additional player or decide to exclude one or many players from his project.” Totally agree as well

  3. 3 – 4 – 3

    Mike

    Fika – Gabbia – Pavlović

    Calabria – Fofana – Tij/RLC – Theo

    Puli – Fullkrug – Leao

not bad but Inter, Napoli & Juve still’ve better squad

    1. Especially if we can add Hojbjerg as our DM in front of 2 CB.

Fofana is good, but I think he is more box to box midfielder.
