Di Marzio: Milan’s €15m investment on Maignan pays off – he is now worth €40-50m

AC Milan made the economic decision to move on from Gianluigi Donnarumma and replace him, with Gianluca Di Marzio highlighting how it seems to have been the right move.

Speaking to Sky (via MilanNews), Di Marzio commented on Milan’s most recent summer transfer market, confirming that it was the Rossoneri’s choice not to renew Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu purely because they made the decision not to go beyond certain limits.

There were some worries about how Milan would replace the Italy international, but the management acted quickly to sign Mike Maignan from Ligue 1 champions Lille for €15m, including bonuses.

The Frenchman is an excellent goalkeeper, and now he is perhaps already worth €40-50m as per the journalist, so it can be said that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have come away from the whole situation deserving praise for a seamless transition.
