Di Marzio: Pavlovic arrives in Milan ahead of medical and €20m move – photo

By Oliver Fisher -

Today looks set to be ‘Pavlovic Day’ as the defender landed in Italy last night and will undergo his medical ahead of signing a long-term deal with Milan.

It was Gianluca Di Marzio who published the photo which showed the Serbian defender in Milano last night, after reports had emerged suggesting that the Rossoneri had struck an agreement with Red Bull Salzburg at last.

Pavlovic arrives from Salzburg for a fee of around €18m plus €2m in bonuses, and the report confirms that he will head out to the United States to join his new team-mates once he has signed his contract.

    1. It great they can offer Salzberg 20 mill and not Monaco for Fofana. If they offered that amount to Monaco weeks ago he’d be playing in USA IN Rosso Nero shirt today.

Well done Milan like cokeboi says.
Let see what happens now with positions needed to fill for the 24 and 25 season

  1. Good signing. Glad he didn’t end up at Redbull Leipzig where his price would have tripled. Finally have a tough rugged defender who is left footed. Now need to shift our focus towards a proper CDM. If fofana cant be bought start negotiating in Jan on a free transfer. We should look other targets.

  2. I wish Milan would go for bigger names but let’s see what this guy can do. Someone here watched him at Salzburg? What kind of player is he?

    1. He is big and strong and quite quick, decent on the ball.
However when he played England at the Euros, he was smoked over and over by Saka.
So the benefits of being big are offset by being a little more cumbersome against tricky/fast opponents
It seems a good value deal financially, but if we sacrifice Simic and Thiaw are we improving? He will need time to settle

      1. To be fair there really isn’t many players that can match Sakas speed and movement.
In regard of Pavlovic setting in I wonder if he already speaks some Italian because doesn’t a lot of Swizz people speak Italian ? because he played in Switzerland for half a year or something which might help him to some extent.

          1. Calafiori would have been a great addition as well but I think Pavlovic is more a player that instills fear in the opposition which we definitely can use in this team. I’ve had my eyes on him for some time and would have expected him to join an English top 5 team or something and for a lot more money that we are seemingly paying so I’m super happy about this move.

          2. Calafiori 50m euro , arsenal pay 45m euro + add on 5 m euro. More than double pavlo price, also double pavlo salary. ACM and arsenal have huge gap in financial , we cannot match that arsenal bid because our budget only 50-60m euro + sale player money for one full season

          3. @Reccaman
Long term we will see who is the best value.
Remember when we signed Nesta and we had a world class defense for 10 years, that’s value.

Calafiori is Italian and had the potential to lead this team for a generation

      2. Alright thanks! I watched his highlights but like any player it’s only his best so it doesn’t say a lot about his potential weaknesses or when he’s not in form. He seems to score quite much on corner kicks, we really need someone able to kick them efficiently.

@ Martin he was playing at Basel in the german part of Switzerland so I don’t think he speaks Italian but anyway we don’t have many Italian players now and I guess the staff and the players speak in English mostly.

        1. To be fair my knowledge of Switzerland is fairly limited to being a pacifist tax heaven where some people speaks German and some Italian so I wont argue there but thanks for clarifying it. Yeah you are probably right that the communication is done in English a lot of the time. People should nevertheless learn a countries language when living there.

          1. Don’t forget the brilliant knives and delicious chocolate.
With Serbia only across the sea, players from there have done well in Italy, it shouldn’t be a big culture shock, more a matter of adjusting to the team and league

          2. Don’t forget French 🙂

I agree that when you live somewhere you try to learn the language, and the players probably do, what I meant though is that it’s probably not an issue anymore since everybody in the team speak English I think. It would be interesting to know how the staff and players communicate and if the coach speaks French to Maignan, Théo, Kalulu, Bennacer, Saelemaekers, Italian to Calabria, Pobega, Colombo, Portuguese with Leao, etc. There were reports of a documentary à la Drive to Survive or Hard Knocks, it would be nice.

          3. SJF 😀 Yeah you are right and St. Bernhard dogs and Matterhorn 🙂
Thats a good point and I wouldn’t expect a huge transition time either.

Bartholomeo Yeah forgot about that language as well 🙂

I got that and it would indeed be interesting but it would also make it somewhat more bothersome if he does and I would also argue that some cohesiveness would get lost there if that’s the case..

    2. Same question I’ve been genuinely asking for some time now. All I got was “highlights” 🤦‍♂️. So once more, is there anyone that has seen him play a full game or three or more, I’d gladly like to know an as.sesment. unfortunately I don’t have time this summer to go watch over full games like I did for Deers. I dont want him to be trash first couple of game and all those “wow what a great signing” people disappear because that usually what happens. The level of confidence many people have with this signing astonishes me. I really didn’t know so many ppl watch the Austrian league or Salzburg in particular /s

      1. Yeah there is a lot of hype around here, I guess we have to deal with that but I would genuinely like to know what kind of player is this guy and if he will be able to grab a starting spot. I like the Tomori and Gabbia pairing, I would like to see them with a proper midfield.

      1. LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣 #classic Boulden
How do you do that? I’m going to take a walk today with my dog = Milan will be relegated 😂😂😂

  3. All we need now is backup keeper and another striker nothing more. Till January. We are ready to go.and if anyone leVes,we replace him

  4. This guy couldn’t wait to be in Rossoneri shirt… I think same goes with Fofana, but the management seems to be taking him for granted.
