Di Marzio believes Pioli still has a large backing: “It seemed pretty loud to me”

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that Stefano Pioli still has the backing of a large section of the AC Milan fan base based on Saturday night.

Speaking on Sky after the 5-1 win over Sampdoria, Di Marzio (via MilanNews) focused on how loud the ‘Pioli is on fire’ chant was, which is sung at every home game by the fans during the pre-match warm-up at San Siro.

“I felt the intensity of the ‘Pioli is on fire’ which seemed very high to me, after a defeat [against Inter in the Champions League], the fans might sing it with less volume but instead it seemed pretty loud to me,” he said.

Speculation and rumours continue to float around regarding Pioli’s future and whether he might be reaching the end of his time as Milan boss, but no matter what happens once the season is done it seems that he still has plenty of backing for the time being.

The team responded on the field too, albeit against an already-relegated opponent. Rafael Leao scored the opener while Olivier Giroud netted a hat-trick and Brahim Diaz also got his name on the scoresheet in a 5-1 rout.
