Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that he has had no confirmation regarding the news that broke over the last 24 hours regarding Rafael Leao’s future.
There have been conflicting reports recently regarding Leao and the fine owed to Sporting CP. Firstly, Relevo stated last night that Milan have reached a verbal agreement with Leao’s entourage over a contract extension that would see the club pay the fine and the winger earn €5m net per season.
However, the Portuguese newspaper Record then stated that Lille will take on the full payment of the fine after the unilateral termination of the contract on the part of the player in the summer of 2018, which amounts to over €20m.
Before the game against Empoli tonight, Di Marzio spoke on Sky (via MilanNews) about Leao’s renewal situation and responded to the claims from Portugal that things could be downhill from here.
“We have always maintained a very positive line on the renewal of Leao, including serenity of relationships and mutual willingness to reach an agreement. There is always dance this famous debt that the player owes to Sporting,” he said.
“Record wrote that Lille will take care of it, but we have not had confirmation on this rumour. We continue to say that Milan want to complete the renewal in a short enough time.”
