Di Marzio: Renewal talks between Milan and club captain have ‘never taken off”

Negotiations between AC Milan and Alessio Romagnoli over the renewal of his contract have never really got going, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Romagnoli joined Milan from Roma back in the summer of 2015 and was virtually a guaranteed starter for the Rossoneri right up until January of this year, when Fikayo Tomori arrived on an initial loan from Chelsea and displaced him.

There is now uncertainty about Romagnoli’s future at Milan for the first time, which is certainly intensified by the fact his contract expires next June and there is nothing to suggest a renewal is imminent or even that talks are on.

Di Marzio spoke to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) about Romagnoli, the Milan captain, remarking that he is no longer a starter in Pioli’s first choice line-up but he has been playing lately and showing his value with Simon Kjaer’s injury.

Interestingly, the well-known journalist adds that ‘a renewal negotiation has never taken off’ regarding the Italy international, so he is heading for an exit on a free transfer it seems.
