Di Marzio: Roma considered €25m Milan man, Liverpool winger before choosing Politano

Roma evaluated two other potential targets – including an AC Milan winger – before proceeding with a deal for Matteo Politano, according to a report.

Politano has been extensively linked with a move to Milan since Gianluca Di Marzio reported last week that Politano has agreed to join the Rossoneri from rivals Inter, having found game time hard to come by this season under Antonio Conte.

With Nicolo Zaniolo out until the end of the season due to an ACL injury, Roma have pressed on in their pursuit of a winger, and Di Marzio stated on Monday night that they are closing in on a deal to snatch Politano from under Milan’s noses.

The journalist has added though that two other names were considered by Roma before they took the plunge and went all-in for Politano: namely Suso and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Suso’s future at San Siro is under serious doubt due to his form this season with suggestions he could be sold for around €25m and replaced, while Shaqiri has played just six times in the league for Liverpool this season.
