Di Marzio: ‘One step away’ – Milan to close €14-15m deal with Spurs for defender

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are now one step away from signing Emerson Royal from Spurs with an agreement between the clubs now very close, a report claims.

After the links intensified again in recent days, Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that the Rossoneri are currently ‘closer than ever’ to closing the deal with Tottenham for the Brazilian defender and are ‘one step away’.

Emerson Royal’s name first popped up during the month of June as a possible reinforcement for Paulo Fonseca’s squad and after a quieter period, the acceleration of the last few days has been followed by a new attempt on Sunday.

Milan’s decision to further increase their offer to the Premier League club for Emerson comes a few hours after the serious injury suffered by Alessandro Florenzi in the friendly win against Manchester City in the USA.

The former Roma man underwent an MRI scan and a specialist evaluation which revealed ligament and meniscal damage, with the consequent need to undergo arthroscopic surgery.

An agreement with Spurs is ‘very close’ and Milan will try to get it fully over the line in the coming hours and days. It is expected that the final figure will be around €14-15m plus bonuses.

Meanwhile, the Rossoneri are also in the process of finalising the arrival of Strahinja Pavlovic (€18m plus €2m bonuses) and presented their first official offer for Youssouf Fofana.

    1. Exactly. So we lost a “7 assists last year with limited minutes” guy and replace him with someone whose same stat shows a bit fat zero. That’s just awesome. Can’t wait to see HIS corner kicks compared to Flo’s…

  1. Looks like someone in the management really loves his profile and pushes this move. I don’t think he’ll be a wise signing but let’s see.

    1. 🔄 Emerson Royal to Milan

This week is decisive for the Emerson Royal deal. Milan’s offer of €15 million is expected to be accepted by Tottenham. Fonseca specifically requested Emerson, and he will be a vital addition to the squad, especially with Florenzi’s injury.

      1. Emerson Royal’s link has been around since last season. And Fonseca literally said he needed a balance between the LB and RB (one more attacking oriented, the other one in contrary). And Emerson is not known with his defensive traits.

But if it’s a direct call from Fonseca than this move becomes more logical. He must’ve seen something in Emerson that we can’t So let’s see.

          1. 7 matches out of 100ish as a CB can’t be defined as lot. But I’m looking forward to see his defensive attribute.

          1. Alexis is not a better in defence compared to Theo. And looking at these recent friendlies, it’s pretty clear on where Fonseca will deploy him.

  2. If he is close to joining than let’s just wish him luck and hope he performs well. Why all the hate. He wasn’t bad with Conte at Tottenham.

      1. I am far from excited by this possible signing, but let’s be honest. Conte was fired for the same reason he is always fired, and why he won’t last at Napoli, he’s a jackass who can never get along with upper management. I don’t care who you are or what you do, if you constantly complain to and about your boss, you will be sacked.

        1. He does that a lot. He’s also right unfortunately.

For spurs both him and jose and even ange now have said some things you know are true and will never change.

  3. As always with this management, one step forward, two steps back. We are the biggest penny-pinching team all of Europe when it comes to good players. Yet we are quick to pay 14m for a player that is worse than any RB option we have at the moment, including an injured Florenzi. What a test of our patience these past few weeks have turned out to be.

  4. This a good buy even if it’s not an exciting one. The price seems about right considering what we’re asking for Adli and Saladmaker, and it should be an important addition to the squad. Emerson was off last season, but if we can get him back to form he should still be an upgrade over Calabria in offense. And a significant one.

The hate for this guy in these comment sections is way overboard. Although of course, DM remains the most urgent hole to fill

  5. A transfer I hoped a deal would be off, since I feel he wouldn’t be much upgrade than Calabria. But as fan, if he end up joining Milan, then I will support him, and I will hope my prejudice on his level will be wrong.

  6. Maybe fonseca wants a specific type of a right back.
Maybe he sees something in emerson that no one here sees.
I’m not excited but if he proves to be better than calabria, which isn’t a hard task to do, then i’d be more than happy.

Get it done and focus on the most important signing : a DM

  7. There is no doubt, our management is among the best in europe. From tothenham expected 25 mil, signore furlani and monsieur moncada make us just pay 14 mil. What a great management we have.

    1. If choosing between Singo and Royal, surely I would choose Singo. But the problem is the Torino’s boss tend to set higher price if he wanna sell his players to other italian clubs.
