Di Marzio shuts down idea of Lille star joining Fonseca at Milan: “Very specific characteristics”

By Oliver Fisher -

Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Paulo Fonseca will not be looking to bring Jonathan David with him from Lille to AC Milan this summer.

Milan’s hunt for a new centre-forward continues to dominate the newspaper columns as the media keep talking about the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Benjamin Sesko and Serhou Guirassy as being candidates.

However, David’s name has never been far away. After all, it is logical that Paulo Fonseca might then look back to a Lille side which got top four this season and thanks largely to his goals. The Canadian led the line for him in his 4-2-3-1 system, and scored 26 times this season across all competitions.

Speaking from the famous Wembley Stadium, the venue of the upcoming Champions League final tomorrow evening between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, Di Marzio gave an update on Fonseca and David.

“For Fonseca at Milan it will be done in the next few days, he was named best coach in Ligue 1 for two consecutive years by the players and then he knows the Italian league, he experienced the pressure of Roma which gave him advantages, he is in line with Milan’s corporate philosophy,” he said (via MilanNews).

“The Diavolo are looking for a new striker, but would Jonathan David not be part of Fonseca’s plans and therefore not part of the Rossoneri’s, who are looking for a striker with different and very specific characteristics.”

      1. It’s a reference to the movie Taken starring Liam Neeson who’s famous line was “I have a specific set of skills”
