Di Marzio: Tuchel, De Zerbi, Xavi, Conceicao – why Milan’s coach pursuit could change

By Oliver Fisher -

Gianluca Di Marzio has given an update regarding AC Milan’s pursuit of a new head coach, suggesting that recent developments could shuffle the list of targets once again.

Speaking in the Sky studios before the Torino-Milan game (via MilanNews), Milan have not yet got to the point of reaching an agreement with any head coach, but Sergio Conceiçao has been cross off the list for three or four days now.

At present Paulo Fonseca is the name that is the frontrunner even if Marseille have made him their number one target. The Lille boss continues to ask for time and is more directed towards joining Milan than Marseille.

However, Di Marzio also adds that ‘several things are happening’ with regards to European coaches, which ‘could open up new scenarios’ and ‘bring back into the running coaches who until a few days ago seemed impossible to get’.

For example, Roberto De Zerbi has decided to leave Brighton and therefore there is ‘no longer the clause to pay to release him’. Thomas Tuchel said yesterday that it was his last conference with Bayern Munich and so now he is free too. Xavi’s situation at Barcelona needs to be understood.

Now, we ‘need to understand how convinced Milan are about Fonseca’ as per the journalist, and how tempted they are by other profiles.

  1. Xavi would be ideal for Milan. Good football, young players, amazing career as a footballer himself… he would make sure any real Primavera talent gets through i to the first team. Furthermore, unlike De Zerbi, Motta & Fonseca, Xavi kni s the pressure that comes from top clubs. He managed to fight Real Madrid till the very end with a bunch of teenagers and a club in total chaos. I would like that kind of passion from a Milan coach 🔥

      1. Xavi is the most proven of the younger names. He has managed one of the biggest clubs in these world through a long title race, played in the Champions League, small budget etc. He knows the pressure on the big stage better than the others mentioned here apart from maybe Tuchel

  2. De Zerbi is a good choice forilan, to developt Milan “Youngster”, De Zerbi Have Milan DNA, n He can build young talent in Milan team, and also can use optimize Milan’s transfer fund

  3. De zerbi to me is a no brainer now. He’s free and he would probably choose us over any team in the world. He has grit and he’s a die hard milan fan. Somebody who would actually care about this team who is young exciting and can grow.

He’s no good for us but qualified enough to coach bayern Munich? Newsflash to everyone, bayern is miles better than us. For the most part, bayern get their signings right and if they want de zerbi it’s for a reason. We need to get him now because he is currently the best option unless some miracle klopp has agreed.

    1. Ancelotti chose to return to Madrid over us. If Bayern comes calling for DeZerbi I think there’s almost no chance.

  4. The Milan management is just proving how confused they are by the adding of new names of of managers almost every day. If not, it could have been mentioned that an agreement has been reached with one and the announcement will be made on such or such a date. That would have putting all these journalists to silence for peace to prevail in the squad and to give good results.
These too many names is just too much for us and not healthy signs of a great Team like Milan please.
