Di Stefano believes Fonseca will use ‘his ideas’ unless Milan job is ‘guaranteed’

Paulo Fonseca’s job is currently insecure, and he could begin next week unemployed if he does not taste success in the Derby della Madonnina. However, a journalist has claimed that he will not change his game plan unless his position as the AC Milan manager is guaranteed.

During Milan’s tour of the United States, there were some fantastic signs of a positive Rossoneri team that pressed with intensity and moved with purpose. That team seemingly stayed in America and the Diavolo at present look lost.

Of course, pre-season is not an indicator of how a season will go, but the differences should not be as notable as they are currently. Instead, it should be small differences, but Fonseca-ball from pre-season seems light years away.

However, Peppe Di Stefano does not believe that Fonseca will change his system for this weekend’s game, and when speaking to Sky he explained the reason why – his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

From Fonseca and Pioli: different moments…

“At that moment Pioli changed and switched to a 3-man defence, which absurdly enough was the start of an upturn. But Pioli was not at risk and would not be at risk even in the event of a resounding defeat. Here Fonseca is gambling his bench: it seems clear, evident and eloquent. He is gambling his prospect at AC Milan and that is why in my opinion he will play it with his ideas.

“Unless he has guarantees from the club that he will stay and keep his position even if he loses, but I think the club is reflecting, as we know and have reported. In my opinion, he’s playing with his 4-2-3-1, which may later become 4-3-3. I haven’t done any checks yet as far as the formation I’ve tried out, but for me, there is only one doubt.

“In defence between Gabbia and Tomori. For the rest Calabria, Theo Hernandez, Pavlovic nobody touches them. In the middle of the field Fofana with Reijnders and Loftus-Cheek. Then we’ll see if someone will play as a trequartista or two half-backs and a playmaker. And up front that’s it: Morata starts from the beginning, with Leao and Pulisic. That’s in general, we’ll see if today’s training will have said something different.”

      1. Yes, 4312 is literally the worst formation to go up against Inter’s 352, midfield will get totally overrun

Agree with your lineup but I think you go Pulisic and Tammy up top…more pace

        1. Yeah. It’s more 3511 what I meant. And yup Abe does offer more energy and pace. Plus, the old Chelsea guard seem to be clicking.. Morata doesn’t look like he has his bearings down yet.

          1. It’s not a bad shout at all…I don’t think he’ll do it as there is always the reliance in the ‘Leao moment’. Inter’s midfield kill us, it’s a good idea to pack ours with a couple of units and the guile of Reijnders. Pulisic can then drop off Tammy

      2. Nah, you need 2 up front and I’d flip Fof with Riejnders. I’d go:
        Tomori-Gabbia-Pavlo
        Royal-RLC-Fofana-Reijnders-Theo
        Tammy-Puli

Reijnders can push up into the whole when in possession for a 3-4-1-2.

  1. With pioli was 5O5 with fonseca is more like 2233 or 2134 when shît hits the fan. And it always does. We have a brown fan and it was supposed to be red and black.

    1. That was some seriously stupid sh1t you said. I will have to teach your m0m another lesson for this. She will be very happy. Signed, Daddy

  2. Normally I’d say sit back and counter against the likes of Liverpool and Inter, but the way things have been going, we can’t even do that decently …

Tried to stay compact against Liverpool but they had no problems passing the ball between our players. Bonkers.

  3. the full american pre-season tour is quite comedy btw.. bring back the old pre-season where we play with other serie a/b teams and only held 1 or 2 games against other league big giants.

  4. Expect first half we will fight ,rush and show real grinta, maybe score and as game progress Inter will take over and our guys will fall apart in the second like they do in all matches with Fonzo so far…..so I would play 4-5-1, sit deep and defend like hell. Let Inter have the ball like they did ag City and wait to a counter. If Fonzo wants to hold the ball those guys will tear us apart just like Liverpool did.

  5. Desperate times, desperates mesures,
Might as well try a 5-4-1 or 5-3-1-1:
    ———————Maignan————————-
    Calabria–Tomori–Gabbia–Pavlovic–Theo
    ——-Fofana———Reijnders——-RLC——-
    ————————-Pulisic————————-
    —————-Morata/Abraham——————
    (time to quit that joint)
