Amad Diallo was on the losing side as Ivory Coast exited the World Cup, yet he still showed everyone what he is capable of.

Calciomercato.com recall that when Manchester United spent €20m to sign Amad Diallo from Atalanta , some in England turned their noses up, believing that he was not worth the investment given his lack of senior minutes. The gamble on the 23-year-old has certainly paid off.

He signed in January 2021, and after a couple of loans and a knee injury, he has become increasingly central to the Red Devils’ project. The Ivorian winger had an increasingly marginal role in the Premier League and a succession of managers, but they have all wanted him to stay.

No margins for Milan

Michael Carrick followed him closely during the 2026 World Cup with Ivory Coast. He scored two goals, against Ecuador and Norway, before packing his bags and returning home, sunk by Erling Haaland’s goal in the round of 32.

Diallo returns to Manchester, where he enjoyed his best performances under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach believed in the youngster’s ability, benching Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

The Ivorian responded by scoring 10 goals and assisting 11 times during that period. He had only done better under Brambilla at Atalanta Primavera. For this reason, when Amorim signed with Milan as the new coach, there were rumours of possible interest from the Rossoneri.

However, Diallo was ‘never an option’ for Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is too important to Carrick and to United, who would never even entertain letting him go.
