Diario AS: Milan and Man Utd enquired about Xavi after Barcelona exit

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were one of the clubs that enquired about the idea of hiring Xavi after his exit from Barcelona was confirmed, according to a report.

There seems to be a Europe-wide carousel when it comes to head coaches this summer, and Xavi Hernandez is one of those who is looking for a new job after leaving Barcelona following a more difficult season than the 2022-23 LaLiga title-winning campaign.

As Diario AS recalls (via MilanNews), there was a bit of a circus surrounding the the Catalan coach. He had announced his farewell at the end of the season only to change his mind a few weeks later, then disagreements with the club led to his final farewell and he therefore put himself on the market.

The idea of hiring Xavi has been explored by both Milan and Manchester United. Both clubs have decided to move in a difference direction (only Milan officially, with Erik ten Hag expected to leave) and are looking for a replacement.

However, the Rossoneri are almost certain to go for Lille boss Paulo Fonseca even if the official announcement is still missing. In all this, Xavi also declined an offer to coach the South Korea national team.

  1. I really liked him as a player, but as a coach he’s got really bad communication issues, he seems to not think before talking. Also very frustrated and angry on the touch line, always arguing with the refs and shouting , that doesn’t inspire at all the young lads. He’s a very big risk and it can end as badly as it did with FCB

  2. This is a coach who could bring some much needed glory back to Milan. Se are missing some real legends to keep our current players on their toes and to also attract new players. Having one of the best midfielders of all time on the sideline would add a lot! Furthermore, he actually fits into the philosophy and style of Milan. A risk? Perhaps. But I’d rather take a chance now than betting on proven mediocrity like Fonseca 👌

    1. One thing milan fans need to understand is, a good coach is not all about how many trophies a coach wins although very important.
The ability to make the team gel and have an identity and playing good football is also important. As well as developing players to grow to their full potential !
The best example is Bayern Munich hiring Vicent Kompany as head coach after his team Burnley, just got relegated.
Vicent Kompany has ZERO trophies in the top leagues but he has a good system that has potential.

Pioli is not necessarily a bad coach but with him Milan lacked an identity. One game we’ll play like Real Madrid next game we’ll play like a Sunday league team.

With fonseca, he has an identity. Now Let’s see if he can deliver. Forza Milan!
