Di Marzio: Botman ‘continues to wait’ for Milan amid Newcastle hesitation

By Isak Möller -

Sven Botman continues to be a hot name on the transfer market, and he continues to wait for AC Milan. The competition from Newcastle has made it difficult for the Rossoneri, but it’s not over yet.

The Dutchman is considered the perfect replacement for Milan’s current captain, Alessio Romagnoli, not just because he’s left-footed. He has different characteristics than Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu, meaning he would complement the team well.

However, the interest of Newcastle has inevitably made life difficult for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. Speaking to Sky Italia last night, as cited by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio shared an update on the situation.

“He [Botman] continues to wait for Milan. Even today, the defender continues to hesitate on Newcastle because he hopes that Milan can accelerate and secure him. But how long can he wait? This is the problem,” he stated.

It remains to be seen how this transfer saga will end but it’s clear that Milan won’t give up just yet. Should they fail to get Botman, then they might opt for a low-cost solution for the defence and invest the remaining money elsewhere.

    1. Friend he is not reluctant to sign for Newcastle, this is fabricated by the Italian media, he has said on multiple occasions he is more then willing to join Newcastle multiple times, he even follows Newcastle players and owners on social media, but Milan are his preference and rightly so as they have champions league football etc…, if Milan don’t seriously up there current offer there’s no chance he’s going to Milan anyway, Milan have very little funds right now, and definitely not €40 million to spend on a CB who probably won’t start, I am Milan fan, I’m just being honest.

  1. If Milan want him there going to have to massively up there offer according to Lille, Milan are currently €10 million short of Lille’s valuation, I’m not sure if Milan have the funds to complete this deal as Lille clearly not going to accept anything less then €40 million, and from what I gather Lille must sell by 30th of June due to financial situation, problem is Newcastle’s offer is a lot bigger then Milan’s right now so Lille will never accept Milan’s offer, Milan are Botmans preference but he has already stated he is more then willing to join Newcastle as well due to there long term project, let’s face it Newcastle will be a very very good team in the not so distant future, they have unlimited money.
