Di Marzio: Milan will make use of buy-back clause in Colombo’s deal

Lecce announced earlier this evening that they have decided to activate the buy-out clause in Lorenzo Colombo’s loan deal. However, they won’t get to keep the player as Milan will activate their buy-back.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan have decided to use their buy-back for Colombo, which means he will return to the club as expected. However, he’s not expected to stay with the first team, instead set for a new loan move.

Although not mentioned in the report, Lecce paid €2.5m for the buy-out and Milan will pay €3.5m for the buy-back. This means that the Rossoneri effectively paid €1m for Colombo’s development this past season.

This is a very common arrangement especially when a player joins a fellow Serie A side on loan. Serie B clubs are more happy to take on the youth of the top tier for free, but in the first flight something in return is standard procedure.
