Di Marzio: Romagnoli could renew as Milan have offered more than Lazio – the latest

By Isak Möller -

Alessio Romagnoli’s contract will expire at the end of the season and in recent weeks, it has been reported that he’s likely to leave the club. However, the situation has now taken a u-turn, a report claims.

The centre-back has lost his starting spot at Milan and when the Lazio rumours started to emerge, many thought it made sense for him to move on. Especially since previous reports have suggested that the Biancocelesti have offered a higher salary.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via SempreMilan.it), however, this isn’t the case as it is in fact Milan that have offered more. A renewal thus shouldn’t be ruled out as things stand given that Romagnoli is happy at the club.

A move to Lazio is tempting for the Rossoneri captain as he’s a boyhood Biancocelesti fan but a renewal simply cannot be ruled out at this point. It remains to be seen what the outcome of the situation will be, but nothing has been decided.

  1. You the journalist are the ones feeding us with fake rumours about everything concerning this gentleman
U the journalist are the ones who also tried to frustrate him too

  2. That’s great news . Milan this summer needed 1 starting and 1 back up CB. With Romagnoli staying they got the back up covered, now just sign Botman for the starter position.

  3. He’s a good back up. Problem is he has no speed. If he isn’t paired with Tamori who can track back he can be a liability. One plus is he does read the field better than most.

    1. It’s interesting how fans use lack of speed against Romagnoli but they glorify Kjaer who is actually slower than Alessio.

  4. If he stay, Milan will have 5 CB (Romag, Tomori, Kjaer, Gabbia, and Botman) or 6 if it’s counting Kalulu as CB.

  5. Milan still did not realize that lack of impact on RW is also due Calabria, for me this guy do not understand soccer and never will. Just watch the games in witch Kalulu was playing RB! So if the managment is planing with Kalaulu on RB and the player also want to play there then buy a PLAYMAKING CB (i guess Botman is not that strong playmaking CB!) RW is crucial (best option was Kulusevski age 22 – 9 scorer points in PL already) to Romangoli, has good skills but his passingspeed is just horrible…thats Serie B level!!

    1. Calabria will never get sold (at least in the near future) b/c currently Milan is short of in house talent.
Per the rules in a 25 man roster you have to have at least 4 players developed in house + 4 players developed in Italy + 17 players. If you can’t fill roster spots with in house talent or players developed in Italy you’ll lose a roster spot.
Right now we got Calabria, Gabbia and Maldini. Next season we’ll get Pobega (probably) but Gabbia and Maldini are very likely to be loaned out. Maybe they can fill the third goalkeeper spot with some youth talent.
Also they are short on Italian players. Currently Mirante, Florenzi, Tonali.
So Milan actually needs to sign Italian players.

  6. Where is rubentus? I though they like targeting free transfer Italian player. If Romagnoli stay, we cannot sign botman

  7. I would prefer Roma to stay. If we switch to a 3 man defense, he would be a perfect player for it.

Of course he had a drop in form and not to mention the rise of Kalulu and Kjaer made things a bit difficult.

I think Milan owes Romagnoli the gratitude. He was there when we were going through a bad time. When he is going through a bad time, Milan should be there.

Throwing away our captain for 1 mil is petty. I hope Romagnoli stays with us. He deserves that respect specially when he already agreed to a 50% paycut.

    Forza Milan.
