Di Marzio: Thuram’s family decisive as Milan expect final decision very soon

Marcus Thuram is AC Milan’s No.1 priority for the attack and talks are at an advanced stage. In fact, the Rossoneri are simply waiting on the striker’s response to their offer, in a race with Paris Saint-Germain.

Milan need to reinforce their squad with a striker amid the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, not to mention that Olivier Giroud isn’t getting any younger. By the looks of it, they have made Thuram their priority as he’s available on a free transfer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Thuram has received an offer from Milan as well as Paris Saint-Germain. The one from France is worth more money, but the 25-year-old is guaranteed a starting role with the Rossoneri.

Milan are in talks with the player’s father, Liliam Thuram, as the family will have an important say in the decision. Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada are hoping that the technical guarantees will be enough to persuade the Monchengladbach man.

Thuram is currently on international duty with France, just like the Milan men Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Olivier Giroud.

  1. On one hand, it would be great to get a “known” name as the first signing, but… If we did actually land him, I fear he’s not good enough and will flop in Italy.

So basically I don’t know whether I want this to happen or not. But he’ll probably choose money over us anyway so why waste time even thinking about this issue. All I know is that we need a signing that will establish a trust that the people in charge actually know what they’re doing.

    1. I am very unimpressed with his ‘technique’.

I’ve watched a lot of highlights and it is clear he is big, powerful and quick enough to be effective but I find myself questioning his ability with the ball.

If this is the best of him, and highlights generally are, it’s underwhelming.

      1. He is clumsy with the ball. Not the best striker for sure. But the thing is that he is free and getting him will allow us to strenghten other areas with our small budget like the RW. Him and Giroud should be good enogh for next year. We can’t afford something much better anyway. Only Scamacca (loan) and Retegui (18mil) might be the better options, but that is not for sure either, and ofcourse you will need to spend more with them for a permanent transfer.

    2. I have the same fear, and given that we are always working with tight budgets having him on the books at 5m per year and then underperforming would be devastating for us. The saving grace may be that he would have arrived as a free transfer and moving him on for a miniscule transfer fee (maybe 5m to covet the year of salary) could be possible

  2. He’s nothing to write home about so not sure what all the fuss is about. A bit like with most of these strikers. As Ollie says I think we’ll end up with one who hasn’t even been mentioned yet.

  3. All interesting comments so far. I’ve not seen him play much, but I’m curious as to why PSG would want him if he is not that good? The again, their transfer policies are just as weird as ours, they just spend more $$$$$

  4. Maybe he will come to milan, but with low salary & low release clause for future, less than 20 unless milan can match psg salary. If he really perform, & they will activate his clause, so every year we will need to get new player, but management will get more money..win-win for management & player, but for milan? For fan? We will be just feeder club

  5. He is big, quick speed and suit pioli system / tactic. But of course it depend on his decision 5m euro nett are the maximum AC Milan can offer vs PSG give him offer 7m euro nett. If he join AC Milan , he will become 2nd highest salary in club below leao also we can buy good DMF & RW with full budget
