Dinamo duo provide honest assessment of Milan defeat: “They proved to be a level above us”

By Oliver Fisher -

Dinamo Zagreb were not at their best against AC Milan last night as they were beaten 4-0 to essentially end their Champions League knockout stage hopes.

The scoring was opened by Matteo Gabbia as the centre-back arrived first to head home a lovely free-kick from Sandro Tonali, and things went south for Dinamo after half-time as Rafael Leao netted after a long solo run, Olivier Giroud scored a penalty and an own-goal capped off the rout.

It wasn’t the way that the Zagreb players wanted to close out their Champions League home games for the season as their midfielder Luka Ivanusec admitted in an interview with UEFA at the end of the game.

“Tonight didn’t go well for us. We had our chances in the first half and then we went behind. But, when we conceded the second goal in the second half, it was difficult for us to go back to the game,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

Josip Mišić did a good job of keeping Charles De Ketelaere quiet at the base of Dinamo’s midfield and he also gave high thoughts on the game to UEFA, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“They proved to be a level above us. They are better than us, but perhaps it is too heavy a defeat given that we were well in the first half. As long as we play, we can hope. We will do our best in the last game and see what can happen. ”
