Diogo Dalot remains coy on future while discussing favoured position and clash against Brahim Diaz

By Oliver Fisher -

Diogo Dalot has revealed the position that he prefers playing and insisted that he is not yet thinking about his future.

Dalot was shipped out on loan to Milan by Manchester United last summer on a season-long dry loan, and with the end of the season approaching it is time to resolve the defender’s future. While Dalot has struggled for consistent starts in Serie A, he has found plenty of playing time and this has led to suggestions that Milan could look to keep him.

Given that he only arrived on a dry loan though, Milan will have to negotiate with Manchester United should they wish to keep the 22-year-old, and it remains to be seen what the Red Devils’ plans are for a player Jose Mourinho signed from Porto.

He spoke at a press conference on the eve of Portugal U21’s game against Spain, with his comments transcribed by MilanLive, starting with an assessment on his future.

On the future: “I am focused on tomorrow’s match, I leave the future for later.”

On playing left vs. right-back: “Of course I feel more comfortable on the right because it is my most natural position, but over the course of my short career I have had the opportunity to often play on the left. It is not the same thing, it is not the same in terms of perception of space, I have to play more often with the non-dominant foot. It is certainly more difficult, but it is a challenge that I have accepted and every time I have played on the left I have struggled and adapted. I like being a complete player, I think he brings positive things and I try to do my best to have a goal which is to always help the team.”

On Brahim Díaz: “ We spoke briefly before the quarter-finals, but we knew that if both teams passed, we could meet. We will do it tomorrow. The Spaniards are very strong players, with extraordinary technical skills and if he plays and I play, it will be a very nice moment for us, because we shared an entire and amazing season together.”
